When I was in my PhD program, I was looking at dozens of excellent, published philosophy papers & wondered what structure they had in common. I thought, 'Why have I never seen a basic paper-writing template to follow?' So I created a free template for you: sellingplato.kit.com/freepapertempl…
Many pre-PhD years ago, Weinberg asked me what philosophy I was interested in. He then said in all seriousness that philosophy of religion is not a legitimate branch of philosophy. If you're not familiar with Daily Nous, it's an aggregator site for philosophy news, which is…
Well, I'm going to comment. This reply is simultaneously authoritarian, pathetic, and in bad faith. That's quite the combo from @DailyNousEditor Authoritarian: because it makes a decision, and refuses to give reasons for it, relying solely on authority and not on public…
Plus all the added physical benefits that exercise gives you. Win win.
Exercise can be more effective than antidepressants for depression... and it's about as effective as therapy. stevestewartwilliams.com/p/exercise-can…

“Only 27% of college grads have a job related to their major, according to the Federal Reserve.” - @morganhousel We need to communicate a more realistic view of picking a major.
Old enough to remember when people would regularly sit around reading Dave Barry quotes out loud and everyone in the room could barely breathe from laughing.
Dave Barry’s new memoir, Class Clowns, tackles everything from the absurd—exploding toilets—to the deeply insightful: modern media’s loss of credibility. thefp.com/p/a-funny-thin…
Imagine teaching to a room of students who: 1) Cannot give even half-decent reasons for any beliefs, because they have outsourced critical thinking to AI 2) Cannot socialize with their peers, because the ease and low risk of AI companions has overtaken their actual friend group…
This is not why many of us dismiss it. Some of us are really clear about this. It’s dangerous because of what it can do, not because of what it can’t. I am actually skeptical of its long term efficacy, but my worries come from what WE will no longer do, not what it will fail…
"The content that changes lives rarely goes viral. And the content that goes viral rarely changes lives." - @thejustinwelsh (someone who knows both sides of virality)
Male college grads are now just as likely to be unemployed as people who never went to college Same is not true for women, who are much more likely to land a job once they graduate college The data is just eye opening. We are leaving young men behind like never before
People often ask, "What should I look for if I want to start getting into philosophy?" A couple years ago, I didn't think there was just one resource. Now I do, and it's edited by @byrne_a & other top philosophers. I explain here: youtu.be/yk9icJaiRVw
Cognitive distortions became much more common on Twitter between 2016 and 2020, as Americans became more politically polarized. I'd say Twitter reflected and created a public square that was increasingly poisonous for liberal democracies. nature.com/articles/s4427…
Skip learning informal fallacies and spend that time and effort on learning formal logic.
What’s one piece of life advice you believe that would have people doing this?
"Total Pixel Space": youtube.com/watch?v=zpAeyg… So fascinating. @tferriss mentioned this short film in his newsletter. For the modal metaphysics nerds, it's kind of an eerily accurate defense of image-necessitism, if you reduced the metaphysics of digital images to coordinates.
