Posting & pinning my very 1st substack. The thing is, I never used to be a Luddite. I'm not anti-technology. As I rage against AI, I want to be as clear as possible about why I rage: I want more for my students & I think there's a better way. doloresgmorris.substack.com/p/teaching-wel…

Reminds me of our local—inexplicably named—“circle of life animal hospital.”
Personally I would have gone with a second T.
Can confirm that she rocked it!
I gave a lecture on wisdom in the rotunda at UVA and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

Oddly enough, this made me miss my years in Germany. I never mind the heat, but the rest was mostly true. I loved it, anyway. Biked or walked everywhere local, trains for the rest, gorgeous country with friendly people! Fresh bread every day. But sure, not much ice or a/c.
Hot take: Europe is a bunch of third-world countries with better branding. No A/C. No dryers. Ice is a luxury. You’ll sweat through dinner while the waiter ignores you for 2 hours. Say what you want about America, but at least eating out doesn’t feel like hot yoga with bread.
This is not why many of us dismiss it. Some of us are really clear about this. It’s dangerous because of what it can do, not because of what it can’t. I am actually skeptical of its long term efficacy, but my worries come from what WE will no longer do, not what it will fail…
This is unbelievable. Friends, we must take AI seriously. We can no longer dismiss it with “Look at this one thing it can’t do” or (worse) “HaLLuCiNaTi0nS!”
We watched this in an all school assembly and I definitely remember being sent home for the day.
In 1986, school children across the nation were required to watch the launch of the space shuttle Challenger. 90 seconds later, it exploded. A teacher was one of the dead. Children didn't get counseling. School didn't close. Kids just went to their next class.
University of Tulsa students have started a petition to save their Honors College and have asked me to share with my followers here. If you are inclined to support these students in their goal to recover what was lost, you can sign here: change.org/Protect_UTulsa…
Highly recommend the game Ransom Notes. (Just pull out some things before playing with kids. )

Now nobody will be able to make a living running down hills! What will we do?! (You all know how I feel about AI, but this caption with this video is very funny.)
It’s getting insane. 🤖 Robots aren’t just walking, they’re taking over real jobs. Smarter. Faster. Shockingly human. Here are 15 insane robot moments you need to see: 1/ A robot running like a pro in China 😳⬇️
