@JackyTarleton
Find me now on Bluesky - Wilkie Collins, Louis MacNeice and Opera fan, still trying to combine all three.
Such a loss😢
How great was Tom Lehrer? In 2020, he moved his entire catalog into the public domain because he felt he'd made more than enough money off of it. Enjoy every Tom Lehrer album: tomlehrersongs.com

Just seen Tom Lehrer’s died. Brilliant satirist, lyricist, inspiration. Also let us update his songs more than once on the Bremner, Bird & Fortune shows. So, generous and a gentleman too. RIP a great man
Tom Lehrer was one of my idols growing up in the late 50s - we played and sang his brilliantly mordant songs at parties - of course now he'd be demonized by the Patriotism Police as contributing to the " disparagement of USA" . We've never needed satire more
This is a shock.
Probably one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen
🔴 Now streaming: Puccini's IL TRITTICO from @operadeparis. Soprano Asmik Grigorian dazzles in three roles in a production by Christof Loy. 🎥 Watch here: youtu.be/iPlKBzuNrbw
I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of this new comedy on @BBCRadio4 at 6.30pm today. There aren’t many comedies about the English Civil War! bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…
@rbo_org have just added this fabulous production to their streaming list, with @jdiego_florez in superb form!👏👏👏🎶💐

So a budget cut for the DCMS in Rachel’s spending review, and the American tech giants given a free pass to ignore UK copyright laws so their AI bots can steal the output of our creative industries as they like. Lucky the Labour Gov is so supportive of British culture, isn’t it?
Thank you @BBC for broadcasting this unmissable concert starring @jdiego_florez & others in beautiful @OperaGarnier commentary by wonderful @PetrocTrelawny
Great recommendation @thetimes - @Vienna_Phil at the Palais Garnier with guest appearances from @Bryn_Terfel, Rolando Villazon and Yuja Wang. I’ll be providing commentary. Tonight on BBC4 at 7.30. Or catch up @BBCiPlayer
Gaza is starving. But Israel can't deliver aid, "not in a week and not in a month" haaretz.com/israel-news/20…
This is so terrible. We must not forget.
Ukrainian journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna was tortured to death in Russian captivity, The Guardian Her body was returned without eyes, brain, or larynx. Burn marks on her feet. Stab wounds. Broken rib. Signs of strangulation. 1/
Absolutely!👏
Incredible stuff here. Trump’s decided he’s now in charge of the 20th century. May 8th has been Victory in Europe Day since 1945. It’s literally recognized across NATO nations and was declared by President Truman after Hitler offed himself in a bunker. But sure, let’s “rename” it…
Putin indiscriminately butchers more Ukrainian civilians, killing and injuring 100 in Kyiv including children. And what is his reward under the latest peace proposals? 1. The right to keep sovereign Ukrainian territory he has taken by violence and in breach of international…
I’ll be listening to this @BBCRadio4 this afternoon!😄

The Sumy National Theatre has announced that the pianist Olena Kohut, one of its orchestra members, was killed in yesterday’s Russian missile strike. She was also an organist and lecturer. “Olena’s music, her smile, her kindness will remain in our memory forever.”
On #WorldTheatreDay I recall writing this in 1998: “Cheek by Jowl's Much Ado About Nothing is wonderful. Not only is it constantly surprising and extraordinarily moving, it is full of wonder.” It starred little-known Matthew Macfadyen & Saskia Reeves. Whatever became of them?
Congratulations to Sky News reporter Martha Kelner for hanging on in there and forcing a retreat from Madge Greene. Rude and abrasive
Here’s a picture of me, a European, security freeloading in Afghanistan as part of a US Army special forces task force. Look! They even gave me a special “freeloader” badge to wear above my medals. 12 close friends and colleagues killed when they were there freeloading too.
