In search of physica pecuniae. Personal highlights: Jim Cramer once screamed at me on air and Dave Rosenberg once responded to my email.
The world is full of boring people who are afraid to air any opinion, do not drink, check every food they eat, count calories, withdraw to their mental redoubt as soon as they are intellectually challenged... It is very sad. You have nobody to talk to.
The use of mathematics in economics is not to "make sure something is correct" - that's an absurd idea. I can write fiction in English or maths. It's to force ourselves to be clear and explicit about what we're trying to say. It helps us see the implications of our thinking.
An Introduction to Ergodicity Economics ergodicityeconomics.com/an-introductio… One anonymous reader devoured it in 5 days and left loads of intelligent comments and questions on the book's Discord server. That means little sleep, food, or toilet breaks. Astonishing. I said thank you. Reply:
entire graduate programs at harvard will cease to function with new trump ban. fantastic news for china. they couldn’t create these opportunities to outcompete the americans in scientific education if they devoted massive resources to it.
1/thread🧵 Almost 20 years ago, I started thinking about the ergodicity problem in the context of economics. That turned out to be surprisingly fruitful, and now there's a book about it.
“They’ve always been fighting over there” is such a lazy way to view the world.
Life Magazine, June 1970. "The Israelis have been debating the plan... moving the bulk of the Palestinians [in Gaza] to the ... Sinai Peninsula. The problem is that the people of Gaza don't want to go."
Academia and tech need to stand together. Visa revocations and green card denials of our best and brightest in both spheres hurts American competitiveness, economic opportunity, and even national security.
It's deeply concerning that one of the best AI researchers I've worked with, @kaicathyc, was denied a U.S. green card today. A Canadian who's lived and contributed here for 12 years now has to leave. We’re risking America’s AI leadership when we turn away talent like this.
So there's this country. It produces money, electronically. Then sends that money to other countries, and in return receives all the goods its citizens might want. Just for sending an electronic notification that it's created more money. And it doesn't like that.
This paper has been in the making for so long that eight children across the co-author group were born between the time we started and now! But it is finally out, and you can check it at arxiv.org/pdf/2503.13323
The #Bills 🤝 'Mr. Brightside' Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox and Mack Hollins with another strong performance on lead vocals and air guitar. Keon Coleman and Spencer Brown getting in the mix as well. #BillsMafia @BuffaloPlus
There is no rational explanation for what Israel is doing. It has to be understood only as pent-up frustration and a desire to show to the world "we can do whatever we want, you can do nothing, and we do not care whether you like it or not".

Could you imagine a social media app where you only see and share photos/messages with your friends? Would be wild.
I challenge you to reach out to someone you disagree with about the war. Ask them how they’re feeling today. Have some empathy and try to understand their thoughts. Acknowledge their feelings, humanize them and work to find some common ground.
In the past thirty years words such as: democracy freedom equality independence justice became so over-used & twisted that nobody knows what they mean today.
I reeeeeealy don’t want to get a filing cabinet. But we are getting dangerously close 😞
