Must political thought be divorced from theology or informed by it? @BartschKayla talks about Hume's famous statement, "reason is, and ought only to be the slave of the passions" in her review of Aaron Alexander Zubia's new book "The Political Thought of David Hume."

The theological ignorance on this app never fails to amaze. Luther, Calvin, & others all understood their reform movements as a return to ancient forms of Christianity, over against Catholic corruptions. Even the most sectarian anabaptists saw themselves in those terms!
American Protestants don’t need to turn to “ancient communities” for their faith. They only need the Bible. That is enough. It’s all there is, in fact. All the other garbage by cosplaying latter-day Fr. Coughlins and Third World accounts is an anti-American, sectarian op.
Doing the Trump religion section of summer reading. Got Paula White covered. Whats John MacArthur's most political book? Any one know?
Gentle pushback. Protestants historically--as opposed to modern Evangelicals--understood they needed the Fathers, natural law, tradition, and other sources of truth. Scripture alone was *finally* authoritative, not but not the *only* source of truth and authority.

An expansive new book contextualizes what is popularly accepted as the starting point of American religious history—the seventeenth-century arrival of colonists—in a longer and wider frame of time and space. Read all about it in Arc: arcmag.org/religion-in-th…

Thanks @jadykoch! My turn to preach this Sun. With the help of Rowan Williams, Melanchton, Luther, Calvin and...Stephen Curtis Chapman, I push back on David Platt-style Evangelical and Roman misunderstandings of the doctrine of vocation. We're free to serve God in so many ways!
Great sermon!

The University of Florida is the new leader in the study of Western and American civilization. So-called elite universities have abandoned the study of Western culture and politics over the last 15 years, and that betrayal has given other institutions the opportunity to create…
My beloved colleagues @IVMiles, @oldlife, @ScotBertram, and @MarkMoyar make me a better person every day of my life.
If you’re a Catholic, name a Protestant who’s made a positive impact on your life. If you’re a Protestant, name a Catholic who’s made a positive impact on your life.
For me it’s easy. @bradleybirzer and Joseph Ratzinger are two Catholics who have deeply influenced my life in overwhelmingly positive ways.
