Atlanta is a cycling city. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Atlanta City Council is weighing a proposal to follow in the footsteps of places like Denver, Boston and Rhode Island by offering city residents rebates for e-bikes. ajc.com/news/atlanta-e…
the basic problem with this analysis of “even in Copenhagen people move to the suburbs when they have kids!” is that Copenhagen *suburbs* are significantly denser than most American *cities*
One of the tweets I got dragged for the most was when I tweeted that "dense walkability" was code for "we don't want you to have kids" but I was, of course, totally correct. (Both @mattyglesias and @Noahpinion had meltdowns.) Apartments are antinatal: ifstudies.org/blog/more-crow…
After all the doomsaying about this Little Five Points lot switching to paid parking...it's packed today & L5P is hopping. We have to stop expecting free parking everywhere in the city. Stop subsidizing car trips. This message brought to you by the 816 bus, which was on time.
A big reason people miss college is that it’s one of the only times in their life when they lived in a walkable community with ample access to relationships and fun things to do with friends. We could all have that for the rest of our lives if we legalize traditional cities.
One thought on the “cooking is more expensive than DoorDash” discourse is that if it were legal to build, I think a lot of twentysomethins would enjoy living in dorm-style accommodations where you don’t have a kitchen but you do have access to a cafeteria with cheap meals.
Beltline Northwest Trail Segment 1 from Peachtree Hills to Peachtree Park Dr in July poured more concrete in the Peachtree Park Apartments complex and has also been redirecting roads through the complex. They should soon finish the eastern half of the trail inside the complex.
Beltline Northwest Trail Segment 1 from Peachtree Hills to Peachtree Park Dr set to be completed in June 2026 has made progress with the first concrete poured in the Peachtree Park Apartments complex and first segment of raised elevated trail along the bank of Peachtree Creek.
Did they finally start construction on this? One of the properties I'm considering is located just beyond the transmission tower.
That part of the south side section is too popular and developed now for rail to go in 😆
It was striped last Saturday when I rode through! So happened some time before then. Very welcome, drivers were NOT aware that was a bike lane there, and to be fair it wasn't obvious. Now the bike signals need some tweaking, very confusing phasing in some places.
Three things that I get to see & make me smile nearly every single day: -Grown ass men smiling & laughing on a swing -MARTA train rolling by -Various people & families riding bikes They’re some of my favorite things
People keep saying Atlanta is a car dependent city, yet the people here just aren’t buying what they’re saying. We’re making strides every single day to make this city more reliable for those without a car. The metro? Hell yeah tough without a car. In town? Not so much.

I genuinely loved this Southside trail section of the BeltLine when it was overgrown. That said, cannot wait for the trail to connect the Westside with the Eastside & hopefully one day see light rail running beside it.

How inviting! But tbh riding the sidewalk eastbound worked out alright as nobody was walking on it. Otherwise, idk where I’m “supposed” to ride here over MLK viaduct.

I don’t recall if the cycle was striped to Trinity last I rode by? But is now!

Extra jersey barriers from Lee St & 10th St protected cycle track projects. Good to know we have replacements! Let’s build up the pipeline so we can place these extras along routes that desperately need the connectivity now to other reliable bike and pedestrian routes!!!

Atlanta needs to dedicate a lane (or 3) on RDA, McDaniel, Peters, & Walker for a protected bike lane / trail to better connect our Mechanicsville, West End, Summerhill, & Castleberry Hill neighbors with the @AtlantaBeltline, @downtownatlanta, & rest of Atlanta
