My latest with @ForeignPolicy It's past time for a fundamental reevaluation of the US-Israel relationship. 🧵 foreignpolicy.com/2024/03/22/isr…
Perpetual war (courtesy of the American taxpayer) is their only strategy. By embracing Israel’s maximalist ambitions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the broader region, Washington is committing itself to perpetual conflict and entrapping itself in the Middle East.

In @nytopinion I write that President Trump is failing to be a peacemaker. He is not on track to reduce America’s military involvement in the world and is keeping the United States in a position that invites more wars, potentially much larger ones. Gift link below.
"Having now attacked Iran, the Trump team has reduced the prospects for a long-term, stable deal." Writes @Le_Shif: theamericanconservative.com/on-iran-trumps…
Latest w @EmmaMAshford on her forthcoming book on grand strategy, how to embrace multipolarity, spheres of influence, why alliances shouldn't be sacred, economic statecraft, bureaucratic inertia, the problem of temptation, & more. Listen! cato.org/multimedia/pow…
"Putting America and Americans first ought to mean putting individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace at the core of a modern America First message, as they once were by its most consistent adherents." Explains @brandan_buck: cato.org/free-society/s…
"Centering US Middle East policy on competition with China will trap the United States in the region and lead to dramatic new levels of commitment at a time when the country is strapped for resources." Writes @Hoffman8Jon in a NEW policy analysis: cato.org/policy-analysi…
Iran says it will never give up enrichment. Trump says he's in no rush to resume talks. Europeans are threatening sanctions if no talks by end of August. Israel, US both say they're ready for more strikes. Most in Iran expect the war to resume-- potentially quite soon.

Claiming D.S. hasn't criticized other Middle East governments (and our role in enabling their malign activities) is false. See his interview w/ Rogan "...we got involved in a war...to placate one of the most evil governments in the world, the Saudis."
I’ve posted and talked about Afghanistan and Yemen on some of the biggest platforms in the world. Neither had almost anything to do with Israel. You’re an anonymous liar in the business of war propaganda. Beat it.
Well, that answers that
Is the war with Iran over? with @ComicDaveSmith
Rhetoric w/o policy change is meaningless. It won't stop the carnage in Gaza, absolve Washington of complicity, or contribute to regional stability. Trump is continuing the failed policies of his predecessors by ceding the initiative to Israel. This is not America First.

Today's America First movement has drifted far from its original ideals. "The core of America First rooted its message in a liberal tradition—a desire to protect America’s unique experiment in individual liberty and limited government from the corruption of total war."…
Can we just abolish the DEA?
Senate today will vote to advance President Trump’s nomination of Terrance Cole to head the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He is currently serving as Virginia’s Secretary of Public Safety & Homeland Security. Before this post, he served for over 20 yrs at the DEA.@cspan 2
Recently, @JustinTLogan and @Hoffman8Jon discussed the US-China competition in the Middle East and explained why basing US Middle East policy on this rivalry is bad for the United States. Take a listen on @CatoInstitute's Podcast: cato.org/multimedia/cat…
"a recipe for endless violence, subsidized by US taxpayers" x.com/Hoffman8Jon/st…
That Israel is launching these attacks to protect the Druze strains credulity. This is Israel's "mowing the lawn" strategy at play, designed to keep its neighbors weak and in a state of chaos. This is a recipe for endless violence, subsidized by US taxpayers
