Been a tad busy at a fabulous ‘Eyes in the Skies’ themed @airtattoo showcasing all things Spitfire reconnaissance and introducing the U2 to my workbook done in collab with @SpitfireAA810 and RAF Youth STEM

Watching #LiveAid40 and two tremendous performances from the two Titans of British rock history- The Who and Queen. Classic Pete kicking the traffic light system over so they could play for 5 minutes longer. Quadrophonic sound, music born out of postwar London. Love it 🇬🇧
We are lending Britain an iconic jewel of our shared history: the Bayeux Tapestry. This is the first time this national treasure will leave French soil. It marks an unprecedented cultural partnership between our two countries — a powerful symbol of our Entente amicale.
What’s better than a PR mosquito? Three… complete with those iconic D Day stripes 🤩 all lined up at RAF Benson
MOSQUITO MONDAY With the D-Day commemorations just over a month ago, today’s image is of this lovely collection of striped PR Mossies taken at @RAFBenson during a spell of wet weather! @deHavMuseum @SpitfireFilly @spitfiregin @penandpaper1989
We are two weeks out from @airtattoo Here’s to celebrating, and commemorating all things ‘Eyes in the Skies!’
Delighted to be back again together with @HistoryOnz, delivering STEM to the young visitors! Fingers crossed we continue with the great weather! Inspire stage Saturday and watch for some announcements! @SpitfireFilly @penandpaper1989 @AeroSociety @Airbus
Eyes in the skies y’all….One of my all time Spitfire favourites, a PR beauty of 14th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, flown by the USAF at Mount Farm. Happy 4th July to our nieces and nephews, and thanks to the 11 US pilots who also flew for the RAF PRU 🇺🇸 🇬🇧

…& in a podcast with @FYTWIO we noted that the less- known Great Escape 2 (ft 80s flying suits!!) at least uses the actual POW names and covers the postwar manhunt & PRU pilot Henry Marshall’s noting that some of the cell doors were marked with ‘S’ - for Sagan, or shooting?
A top film when it comes to war classics, but its historical inaccuracies… I still feel it has its place in the GE story - thoughts? @FYTWIO @HistoryOnz @DrHelenFry @FightingOnFilm @angie_buk @history_alice @almurray @authordlewis @davidwalliams
Remembering the incredible bravery of my Great Great Uncle Lawrence, who landed at Gold Beach today 81 years ago on #dday & the reconnaissance pilots @SpitfireAA810 who risked it all to fly unarmed prior to the landings to obtain vital intelligence, as well as on D Day

An iconic PI who worked on Op Torch, the legendary Churchill…. Sarah Churchill no less 👏
Sir Winston Churchill’s daughter, Sarah, played a secret role in a top Allied invasion — and didn’t even tell her dad! This is the story of how a former stage star helped fool the Nazis with her photographic interpretation skills and total silence: (🧵)
Righting a Dunkirk myth: 85 years on, it’s time to look with a fresh pair of eyes at the role the RAF played during Operation Dynamo regarding the RAF PRU. Daily reconnaissance sorties were an essential way to monitor and help coordinate the huge effort to evacuate the BEF

Churchill issues new orders to British officers: don't surrender until at least half of your men are killed or wounded, to make sure every battle hurts the enemy: "Anyone who kills a Hun or even an Italian has rendered good service."
Royal Navy warship HMS Cossack has rescued the last known survivor from sunken battleship Bismarck: a ship's cat found clinging to floating debris. He's been named "Oscar", the naval signal for "Man Overboard".
Now that is BBMF display worthy! The ever graceful, versatile, mighty Mozzie
MOSQUITO MONDAY Today’s aircraft is an unknown PR.IV carrying out a top side pass. Sadly no further information is forthcoming. @deHavMuseum @HistoryOnz @SpitfireFilly @rentaquill @angie_buk @TalesoftheAir
As we approach the anniversary of #dunkirk85 it’s important to recognise the variety of boats, and people involved- including the @RNLI
Commemorating 85 years since the #DunkirkEvacuation, transport yourself back in time with our two new colourised images from #Margate RNLI 💙 Bringing the original colours to life, they show the Lord Southborough lifeboat and the brave crew, which made the journey to #Dunkirk.
