Today we're exploring how to get the symbolic mindset back:

"What if we have been immersed all our lives in a visual and intellectual culture that takes materialism so much for granted that we no longer have a mental framework to understand these images from our own culture’s past?" open.substack.com/pub/hilarywhit…
This is pretty much exactly why I am not psychologically capable of accepting the love of God. youtube.com/shorts/jjnqtZa…
It's very simple: the institutional Church destroyed the religious life & nearly destroyed the priesthood. Many many people who had genuine vocations came of age to discover there was nowhere to go. The institution responded with a fiction: the "single vocation". We were lied to.
"A single person is someone who is potentially a priest or religious or a married person. That is to say, they are potentially in a vocation. If they are potentially in a vocation, then they aren’t actually in a vocation." 📽️ Watch below 👇

People who aren't from sick, dark-sided, broken families cannot conceive of what it's like to be from such a family. It's beyond their comprehension. The entire psychological architecture is different. The guy from a decent, upstanding, functional family thinks: "It's…
When you were training to be a painter in the 15th c. you spent a lot of time doing studies of drapery. We have a lot of these drawings still, and it's fascinating to see how there were "canons" for drapery, as well as faces and figures.
Gotta love Gothic canonical draperies.
People wonder why I live here, and have no plans to ever go home.
Number of Mosques. Britain 🇬🇧: Over 2000 Italy 🇮🇹: 8 That means there is almost 23000% more mosques in Britain per 1 million people than in Italy. Why the massive difference?
The canons in sacred painting is part of the larger Christian cosmological worldview in which all sacred art forms, chant, architecture, liturgy, were interconnected through a shared grammar of number and proportion. Just as Gregorian chant was not composed to stir emotion...
