East Anglia countryside butterflies and moths in particular. Views, typos all mine.
Simple but pretty effective way of stopping flea treatments from entering sensitive waterbodies.
Is 2025 (red lines) a good butterfly year? Yes, on Dutch Butterfly Monitoring transects there are more butterflies than in 2023 and 2024. Numbers almost exactly equal 2022. But look at the 1990s. Compared to then it is a poor butterfly year. Shifting baselines!
Scarce Pug on North Norfolk Coast yesterday -bit windy for photos. An increasingly rare moth.

Good to find continued presence of Kentish milkwort following new introduction of seedling plants by @speciesrecovery on newly created wildflower grassland. Lace border and black veined moth putting on a show too, as first time records on new sites. Farmers leading nature recov'

Breckland Landscape Recovery getting it ‘just right’. Ambitious, but achievable. Complex enough to hit objectives for nature, but straightforward enough to actually be delivered. Enthusiastic, but realistic leadership. It’s conservation Baby Bear’s porridge. Well done them 👏👏
Thousands of Garden Tiger moth caterpillars at Spurn Head Yorkshire - never seen so many - everywhere up trees and on the beach. Also Brown- tail and Oak Eggar . @yorkshiremoths

Deeply saddened to hear of so many redundancies at @savebutterflies, most in front line butterfly+moth conservation. A huge loss of expertise just when needed. Also cessation of international work. Let’s hope their finances recover soon when so many species are in dire trouble
You will get more factory/mega farms You will get a less resilient and robust food system You will pay more for food, way more Nature will be vanish in loads of places where it could have have thrived And you will get a food system like in the states - dominated by corporates
is there a scenario where farms could be profitable without this help? or is the system just broken?

This is devastating. A dedicated park ranger, fired overnight, left wondering how to support his family. Public servants shouldn’t be political casualties. Our national parks and the people who protect them deserve better. #ProtectPublicService #NationalParks
We are set up and ready to go at the Norwich Science Festival at the Forum. Come and say hi. @NorwichsciFest
