Let’s be real: five years in, the work is still uphill. Donors shift, governments hide, pharma lawyers up. HJI reminds us: we don’t need permission to demand accountability; we need persistence

Health justice isn’t abstract. It’s ARVs actually on clinic shelves. It’s budget lines you can trace. It’s contracts you can read. It’s communities knowing where to knock, and who to expose when the door stays shut.

HJI was born in a storm, opaque vaccine deals, profiteering, and policy silence. They chose the hard route: litigate, disclose, and force the state to show its homework. That courage didn’t trend, it changed precedent.

From PAIA requests to courtroom victories, HJI made “access to information” more than a constitutional clause, it became a tool communities could wield. Transparency isn’t a value; it’s a tactic. HJI proved it.
