Kenya’s power generation is mostly renewable. It’s also very small for a country of 55 million to have only a peak demand of 2.3GW. It’s expensive at $0.22, which is a large reason for so little use, and double the African continents average.
Update: Worth noting is a new peak demand of 2,325.23 MW was recorded on 2nd July 2025. (approx 100MW growth from 17th July 2024) Energy MWh for that 2nd July supplied as follows; Hydro 25% Geothermal 42% Thermal 8% Wind 13% Solar 3% Imports 9%

We're joined by @thetrocro, professor and cofounder of nonprofit @NakamotoProjct, breaks down the demographics and trends in Bitcoin over the last two years.
A month later, and hashrate has been "as expected" ... but currently 6% lower than expected -- prob explained by curtailment (not modelled). Hashprice might avg low $50s this period. A year ago was 600 EH/s @ $60 hashprice... so there's been at least 50% hashrate growth.
Hashrate update: New ATH incoming. Model (faint line) predicts ~920 EH/s, and we're trending at ~910 EH/s. Pretty neat how well this works. The Apr 19 high seems almost certainly due to luck.
