Back in the 1970s, Barbara and David Snow noticed that the white spots on a Lapwing's primaries were distinctive enough to identify which primary had been dropped when. They then used discarded feathers to estimate moult duration. More in here: wadertales.wordpress.com/2016/07/27/lap…
