How do cortical perturbations affect fMRI connectivity? Not necessarily as one would expect! Our new work @NatureComms shows that cortical inactivation may unexpectedly INCREASE fMRI connectivity! rdcu.be/cHKie 🧵below explains how. Spoiler: δ oscillations are key! 1/n

1/ Six years in the making! Our preprint on SORDINO fMRI is out. We're sharing the raw data and sequence to facilitate brain-wide mapping in awake, behaving rodents. If this could be useful to your colleagues and friends, please help spread the word! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Our latest work is online today @ScienceAdvances ➡️Brain connectivity in carriers of high risk mutations for #autism and #schizophrenia U-turns across adolescence (hyper -> hypo) ➡️This switch is driven by synaptic remodeling science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Full explainer below 👇
➡️What's the significance of brain dysconnectivity in developmental disorders? ➡️And what are its underpinnings? To address these questions we mapped connectivity in carriers of high-risk mutations for autism and schizophrenia➡️tinyurl.com/ytuca74u Here's what we found🧵 1/n
Scientists have uncovered how puberty reshapes brain connectivity in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, a genetic condition linked to autism and schizophrenia. The findings highlight how changes in synapses and brain connections may shape social behavior and… dlvr.it/TLZJSm

Nice to see our preprint featured! Thanks @callimcflurry and @_TheTransmitter for the excellent coverage!🐭🧠 👇 #neuroscience #autism
An analysis of 20 autism mouse models point to two subtypes: One displaying out-of-sync brain activity and impaired synaptic pathways, the other with too much synchrony and dysregulated immune pathways. By @callimcflurry thetransmitter.org/spectrum/too-m…
Breathing isn’t just for life—it’s a brain pacemaker! This excellent review reveals how each breath sends sensory waves that globally synchronize neural networks - with implications for "functional connectivity". Congrats to the authors! 👉 doi.org/10.1038/s41583…
Outcomes for the first 60 MDD patients treated at our clinic @QLDNeurostimCen with robotically delivered & fMRI-personalized rTMS MADRS response=74%, remission=53% for RCT patients EXCITED to see fMRI moving from research to real-world clinical use! karger.com/pps/article/do…
Vittani, Lee, Wang, Hiraoka, et al. KI mouse expressing red fluorescent blood In situ SpyTag/Catcher attachment of biosensor ECS SpyCatcher to capture BBB leak doi.org/10.1101/2025.0… We hope this method is useful to a wide range of the biology community.
There are two subtypes of autism: brain hypoconnectivity & hyperconnectivity. 🧵1/9
Report: fMRI of 20 mouse models of autism (n=549 mice) clustered as hypo- & hyper-connectivity subtypes. In human autism (940 cases; 1036 controls), 25% had analogous hypo-/hyper-connectivity subtypes. Will be interesting to learn developmental timing & environmental effects.
