"Clara often thought that Mrs Maugham’s attitudes towards the television typified her whole moral outlook; before acquiring it, she had considered it infinitely vulgar and debased; after acquiring it she considered all those without it as highbrows..." jacquiwine.wordpress.com/2025/03/27/jer…
Just read this brilliant new novel, highly recommended!
V nice thing in the Guardian
I’ve binge-watched the whole thing and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cast, stylishly made, and Matthew Rhys is lovely!

In issue 15 of Tudor Places magazine I tell the story of Barnard Castle and the two sieges there in the Tudor period. Look carefully at one of the photos in the article and you should even be able to spot Specsavers.
Agree! How many times does the BBC need to be told???
The tragic and moving ending of episode 5 of Wolf Hall ruined by the squeezed credits and voice over for what is next really disgraceful and disrespectful the mood shattered don’t do it BBC
🚨BREAKING NEWS// Government green lights M&S Oxford Street demolition proposals. SAVE early comment: 🗣️What a missed opportunity! The government has chosen the easy option – business as usual - when it had a real chance to show leadership and ambition on this urgent issue. 🧵1/4
Oscar died at about ten minutes to two in the afternoon of Tuesday 30th of November, 1900, attended by his friends Robbie Ross and Reggie Turner. He was just 46 years old. Raise a glass for him. 🥂#OTD #OscarWilde #anniversary #death
A complaint that misses the point of the scenes between the young bi-racial boy and the Nigerian air warden (based on a real person) by a person I assume hasn’t seen the film.
The reality versus... the fiction. I understand why TV creatives tinker with our island story to render it more 'inclusive'. But, by any rational measure, it seeds a lie that Britain was saved by people who weren't white. It is historically illiterate and tediously corrosive.
