‘The Bill was introduced to Parliament by @PamGosalMSP - a Scottish Conservatives member - and clearly needs the support of the SNP. I guess we are about to find out if ‘victim centred justice’ is an SNP priority - or merely a sound-bite’ linkedin.com/posts/tlrqc_ta…
‘The Record article referenced the Margaret Fleming case. Two people - X & Y were convicted. X has since died. If X never shared the location of Margaret’s body with Y - and took that secret to the grave - is Y to die in prison because she doesn’t know?’ linkedin.com/posts/tlrqc_fo…
I’ve seen some Tweets this week suggesting delay in the Peter Murrell case. He made his 1st appearance on 20th March 2025 - so COPFS must serve papers by 20th July 2026 - about a year from now. Would not be unusual if nothing public happens for a year

One thing is absolutely certain from the correspondence I’ve received on the ‘rape shield provisions’ - there is a huge gap between what the public (who try cases as jurors) regard as relevant to the credibility of a witness - and what the Court considers relevant to that issue
Concerns have been raised that Scotland’s rape laws could breach human rights, lawyers warn ⚖️ heraldscotland.com/news/25333636.…
It is difficult to square votes for 16 year olds with the scientific research behind the Young Persons Sentencing Guideline - ie due to brain development u should be judged less responsible for your actions until you are 26

This is such a sensible idea. An easy task for each prison housing short-term prisoners to use AI to create a list based upon earliest release dates - remove the violent ones - then release them as required to keep the numbers below the prescribed limit @howardleague_sc 👍

The Scottish proposal for juryless trials was restricted to rape cases but has been removed from the relevant Bill. In England a person charged with shoplifting can elect for trial by jury - in Scotland the prosecutor chooses the forum based upon the length of the likely sentence

Genuinely touched by all the fantastic messages that I have received from complete strangers who had started to fear that nobody in the legal profession would ever shine a light on the current imbalance in our adversarial process. Thanks to everybody who took the time 💙

Far too many women are at risk of abuse but are not receiving the support they need. My Prevention of Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Bill keeps potential survivors of domestic abuse safe by giving authorities the power to notify them that they may be at risk.
