“Ontario’s unemployment rate currently stands at 7.8%, that’s well above the national average of 6.9%. Youth unemployment stands at 15.8% and many of the jobs that the asylum seekers would be able to get with a work permit would be the same entry-level jobs that young people…
Doug Ford’s plan to issue provincial work permits to asylum seekers is a huge mistake that must be stopped. torontosun.com/opinion/column…
It'll be interesting to see how the Liberals respond to this. Their first through 10th instincts will be to attack Conservatives for being heartless. But that doesn't really work for euthanasia. Opinions transcend party lines.
Very very very happy to see the CPC take up this initiative and even more proud of Andrew for talking about this difficult moment at such an important time. Hats off to all.
The bagman role is actually increasingly rare and increasingly less influential in Canadian politics (thank goodness) as the role of corporate donations diminishes and the influence of individual donors rises. Ontario is the exception, not the rule.
NEW: Meet the bagman. Tony Miele is the top fundraiser for Doug Ford's PCs — & he’s quite good at it. He’s also a longtime “consultant” for developers. Sources, court & gov records shed light to @Thetrilliumca on why he’s known as such a powerful figure. thetrillium.ca/news/the-trill…
This is the problem. These boys (men) had *clearly* been taught about consent. They taped a damn consent video! The point is that consent is not an ethic. It's not a guideline for how to treat another human. Particularly one you are stronger than, hold power over, and outnumber.…
Anyway, teach your boys about consent — not plausible deniability.
There’s also pressure in so far as, I dunno, this was the entire premise of Mark Carney’s election campaign.
Trump says he's not focused on negotiating a trade deal with Canada. However: there is also a massive carveout in place for trade covered by the USMCA, which does put less pressure on these talks. For now it's tariffs on steel, aluminum, autos that Canada needs a deal on.
So many people are missing the boat on this. Thinking these men were not guilty does not mean you need to celebrate them. Please read the details of their behaviour. No decent person would think it’s ok for their son to behave that way or their daughter to be treated that way.…
Remember today that an acquittal does not mean we cannot hold these men accountable for their actions. It does not mean that we cannot set a higher moral standard for our culture. Indeed, it means that we must. thehub.ca/2025/06/06/gin…
I want to thank Andrew for bravely coming forward to tell his story to try and help others suffering with their mental health. And to Tamara Jansen for leading the effort with Bill C-218 to protect these people and get them proper health care and treatment, not assisted suicide.
I almost died by suicide fifteen years ago while battling depression. If the expansion of MAID coming into force in 2027 were in place then, I'd likely be dead right now. Today, I'm launching the #IGotBetter campaign to keep hope alive for people living with mental illness.
I wrote about the fawn response, consent, the criminal burden of proof, and the Hockey Canada verdict for @TheHubCanada: thehub.ca/2025/07/24/joa…
This was the obvious decision based on the evidence presented in court. It doesn’t mean the men didn’t say and do a bunch of degenerate things, but that, of course, is not criminal
All five men in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial have been found not guilty
I'm so glad Andrew ran for office and so glad he tells his story. Whether or not the government sees the light on this, his message will save lives.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia has started reading her decision in the Hockey Canada trial. She says she cannot find E.M.'s testimony "credible or reliable."
This explains a lot.
there’s only 3 types of people who are never wrong: – Women – Oldest daughters – Firstborn granddaughters
The reason Canadians feel like they have less and less money to pay for their lives is because they have less and less money to pay for their lives.
The dichotomy set up here—"is parenting hard, or is it awesome"—presumes a firewall between hard and awesome things. Don't most entrepreneurs say that starting a company is pure hell and also exhilarating and rewarding? I also sometimes sense in these conversations an assumption…
Unlike many conservatives, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I certainly don't reflexively oppose it. It seems to me that one of the social and cultural problems we have is delayed adulthood. Young people are starting careers later, getting married later (if at all), and…

I mostly stopped writing about Back versus Front Row six years ago, because I got bored of it, didn’t want to be that guy, and I thought education as our biggest divide, with huge political ramifications, was understood enough by Dems that they would stop continually throwing…

So the uber for drugs thing is making its way around the internet. And I thought surely this is photoshop. NOPE. Here is my own screencap from their website. Your tax dollars at work. (As a reminder, this is the same health centre where a mother of two was tragically murdered by…
The political filter seems to get thicker every day
Mark Carney is breaking his promise to get projects done fast. Still no list. Just more talk. While we give away our resources at a discount & become more dependent on the U.S., the Liberal government stands in the way of getting things built. We can’t wait for every project…
