Our book on ECT is out. People who had ECT or their relatives came together to share their journeys through severe depression and ECT. I was amazed by their stories. @DrAnnieHickox @ProfRobHoward @JunHongLi56447 @Joshua_RSmith @jonathanstea @JacquesSloman @DrT_Gergel

I’m pleased to see that @grok takes such a balanced view.
Yes, critical comments from the antiD brigade can harm patients by fueling stigma and misinformation, deterring treatment-seeking. In developing/underdeveloped countries, where >75% of depression cases go untreated (per WHO), this exacerbates risks like suicide and dysfunction,…
Our new review on antidepressant withdrawal led by @kalfas_michael @sameerjauhar Estimates similar to ANTLER trial where ~75% had been on antidepressants for >3 years & were followed for 12 months Variability around this estimate - 3% of people experience severe withdrawal
Systematic review and meta-analysis: Stopping antidepressants leads to slight symptom increases compared to placebo, but these symptoms are not clinically significant and do not include mood changes. ja.ma/4lNdBIu
I can see why the people who just hate antidepressants were so spooked by this paper that they felt they should disrupt the Science Media Centre presentation! It’s a balanced informative piece and careful to acknowledge limitations. (Something you never see from the other side!)

The damage they cause!
The antiD brigade is now taking aim at pregnant women. I took Prozac throughout pregnancy & 3 weeks post partum and all that happened was my baby got a calm, focused mum who wasn’t freaked by her traumatic birth 👍 dailymail.co.uk/health/article…
Have they stopped laughing now?

Up to 85,000 new/expectant mums may have experienced postnatal depression in England last year. They must be supported, and talking therapies & medication can help them recover. The dangers of untreated depression far outweigh the risks of treatment. ⬇️shorturl.at/lQdb7

A very balanced account of what happened.
An FDA panel discussing the use of antidepressants during pregnancy largely amounted to misinformation or facts taken out of context, according to several psychiatrists who tuned into the meeting. nbcnews.com/health/mental-…
See you next year!

Bulgaria, the euro is coming! On 1 January 2026, Bulgaria will become our 21st Eurozone country. This means more than just a new currency – it is a real achievement. The euro will strengthen Bulgaria’s economy and bring big benefits for Bulgarian people and businesses.
It was a briefing for the media. What the Science Media Centre does all the time. Not a grandstanding opportunity for an expensive Harley Street therapist who has book opportunity issues with Psychiatry and its treatments.
This is truly amazing! A bit dark, as you say, to put on the wall in the bedroom, but definitely have to be put on a wall.
I drew these when I reached the lowest point of a depression. I meant to kill myself that night. Drawing saved me. I often paint when depressed, the paintings are usually dark, but the process is soothing.
Listening to a powerful interview by @FranceskAlbs on BBC 4. "It doesn't matter that I am not safe... ".
