🌊🗑️🛰️ A new life highlight: telling UK Parliament we’re living in a litter sandwich Plastic below in the ocean, debris above in Earth’s orbit. I shared how: 1. We need space literacy 2. Prevention > clean-up 3. We must act fast, before we repeat old mistakes
Latest paper giving new insights into the long range transport of tyre-derived microplastics in surface waters. Py-GC/MS carried out at @UniofNewcastle in collaboration with @ParkerJurd @ProfRThompson @PlymUni @SciencesNCL DOI: 10.1016/j.marpolbul.2025.117811

❄️Throwback to SNESFestive! ❄️Thank you to all our internal registrants and external partners for attending and taking part and to our fantastic organisers too for making it such an interesting, educational and immersive experience🙏 #WeAreNCL
Very excited to see our book chapter published! 📢 It discusses sources, transport and impacts of #PlasticPollution of all types in #Antarctica and the #SouthernOcean 🇦🇶 Thanks to @MinniePlastique, @polarplasticdan and @EmilyRowlands89 for being great co-authors on this!
📢Exciting to see my first book chapter contribution published! Put together as part of a brilliant #ECR team with @MinniePlastique, @Becky_Science and @EmilyRowlands89. Our chapter (No.9) describes #PlasticPollution in #Antarctica and the #SouthernOcean worldscientific.com/doi/epdf/10.11…
Tonight we protested in opposition to Reform UK's Richard Tice MP speaking at Durham Union. We say #RefugeesWelcome in #Durham!
HOT off the press in @ScienceMagazine: Twenty years of #microplastics pollution research – what have we learned? Here’s an answer from @ProfRThompson, @WinnieCJ, Julien Boucher, @SabinePahl, @KRaubenheimer, and Bart Koelmans. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
The final round of negotiations for the #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #INC5 are due to take place in November. Reflecting on more than 20 years of research on plastic and microplastic pollution, and my experience during negotiations, has brought me to 3 key priorities.
🧵PROTESTS THIS SATURDAY 🚨STOP THE FAR RIGHT This Sat 28 Sept, the far right are attempting to gather around the country to “Unite the Kingdom”, a slogan used by fascist Tommy Robinson. We must oppose them everywhere they show their faces - join the counterprotests👊🏽
☝️ Further delays in addressing the ongoing global contamination from plastic chemicals of concern could significantly destabilize the ecosystems we depend on. 📄 Download and read our policy brief: ikhapp.org/material/polic… 📚 Additional resources ⬇️ linktr.ee/scientistscoal…
… and a fantastic talk by my PhD student @biochemcarrie on how #microplastics and associated #biofilm may seed clouds… #MICRO2024
Some fantastic talks at #Micro2024 from the #PlymouthMarine team. #Exetermarine
What next for #microplastic research? PML senior scientists and students are among those presenting and chairing at the #MICRO24 conference in #Lanzarote this week inc. @LindequePk @DrSamGarrard @oceanswithcharl. Read more: pml.ac.uk/news/microplas… #microplastics #plasticpollution

Just gave my first talk at #MICRO2024 Having a great time in lanzarote listening to talks and making new connections ☀️ Thank you for all the support and everyone who attended!
Presentation done! Many thanks #MICRO2024 for giving me the opportunity to present our work! #microfibers #rockeval
Thanks @ProfRThompson for this excellent keynote presentation: "Microplastic pollution - What have we learned from 20 years of research and what are the priorities ahead?" #MICRO2024
Thank you #MICRO2024 there is now a global consensus plastic production is unsustainable; we need to shift our science focus from problem definition to solutions. When I started research on plastics I was one of few, now we are 1000s of scientists and many hands make light work!
First day at MICRO 2024! Plastic Pollution from Macro to Nano 23 - 27 September 2024, International Conference, Lanzarote, Canary Islands. @ProfRThompson @LindequePk @ParkerJurd @@FrancaDeFalco @RachelCoppock13

🚨 Exciting news! 🚨 Las Hoyas has been recognized among The Second 100 IUGS Geological Heritage Sites! 🏞️ This recognition highlights its scientific significance, not only as a site of exceptional preservation but also as a valuable educational resource. #GeoHeritage #LasHoyas
