Let’s reindustrialize America!
Bethlehem Steel is back.
Very true, my dad and grandad loved the fight scenes in this. My late grandad (James Ganley) had boxed at Connacht level in his younger days.
The Quiet man is 73 years old today. The John Wayne/Victor McLaglen fight is an all-timer. This is a 'Dad Movie', if ever there was.
Biggest impediment to selling steel online is that it’s not a commodity and has so many variables. Hard? Yes. Doable? PROB. Necessary to reindustrialize? YES.
One of the most revolutionary things we’re working on @BethSteelCorp is this thing called a “website” where our customers can buy things. Turns out selling steel is a revolutionary idea in America’s steel industry. We’re coming to your aid @zanehengsperger
What does it take to be on the cutting edge of tech in your industry? > Software: hundreds of the smartest engineers and mathematicians in the world. > Metals: a website.

chinese steel mills: "yes here you go buy anything now we get it to you tomorrow" US steel mills: "yeah that's going to be a minimum order of $500k, also we will never answer the phone, and we will get back to you in about 2 months"

there are 70% fewer foundries in the US today than 70 years ago US castings output peaked in 1979 around 16M tons, in 2020 we were making just under 10M tons
Edison spent the last years of his life trying to solve America’s complete dependence on foreign rubber. Yet we’re still in the same position. And unlike in the past Anglo-American Naval dominance is not something we can take for granted. Materials build or dooms Empires.

The materials industry is one of the best positioned to benefit from AI supercharging R&D. This is the field where breakthroughs in theoretical physics will first meet reality.
I don’t think most people realize what abundant energy and AI compute will do. It will unleash a way of productivity. Automation of machines, cheap materials and industrial capacity. The great acceleration is coming.
‼️ Who knew tin was so important? Apparently the Chinese did.
America has no active tin mines or smelters. I’m sure this is fine, nothing to worry about.
I’m always surprised people don’t realize how important Australia is. They are the Saudi Arabia of the metals industry. Strategically, this could be America’s most important ally this century.
