I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I think there is a point where Bishops have to acknowledge that the desire of people to defend their own (Christian) cultural heritage also needs to be acknowledged as not entirely evil..cbcew.org.uk/bishop-mcaleen…
My former Anglican Bishop (and now Catholic Monsignor) is on fire on Twitter at the moment!
Augustine was sent here by the pope.Papal authority is necessary for unity of the Church. The dormition/assumption is universal in East &West. What do Anglicans do on 15 August? All the Reformers held to BVM’s sinlessness. On the Church’s power to remit or retain sins see Article33.
The faith which has given England its precious heritage is not that of a tribal church but of the Catholic Church brought here by Augustine &the Northern saints. It requires assent to a world view which results in the values he mentions. Some elements survive but we need the whole
I was very impressed by this excellent speech in Parliament.
Pope Leo appears to be far less ambiguous than his predecessor over this conflict… (not that this is saying very much.. his predecessor had ambiguity down to a fine art..) Pope Leo sends food to families in Ukraine | ICN indcatholicnews.com/news/52835
A bit Nottingham focused (so a bit Niche) but having had family members who have experienced the toxic atmosphere at this iconic venue… I thought I’d repost.. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Once upon a time the Telegraph had an informed Religion correspondent… no longer it appears.. @holysmoke

Talk about cognitive dissonance! An Anglican Church wants to dig up St Thomas More’s head and make a shrine. He literally died rather than accepting what became Anglicanism.

For the first time in modern history, the apostolic nuncio to the United Kingdom has celebrated Mass in England’s most celebrated Anglican cathedral — Canterbury Cathedral. catholicnewsagency.com/news/265281/hi…
Just want to remind all my Catholic followers from the US that today is a day of abstinence! 😁
Considering all the threats we are currently facing in the UK over the sanctity of life and the dignity of the human person this is particularly depressing news…

Oddly, I think the fact that the Holy Father has a doctorate in Canon Law will prove to be particularly defining of his pontificate. Rule of law rather than papal whim will be a good thing.

I hope all priests would do the same. Thankfully my ACTUALLY Catholic MP didn’t vote for state sponsored assisted suicide.
My Catholic Priest publicly announced at every mass he was denying me Holy Communion following the assisted dying vote. Children who are friends of my children were there. This followed a direct threat in writing to do this four days before the vote. 1/3 observer.co.uk/news/national/…
A delightful and joyful surprise to bump into (by accident) Douglas (a former student from my chaplaincy days and now a Seminarian for Birmingham Diocese) whilst on holiday in Rome!

A pity this wasn’t the official statement of the Bishops’ conference as a whole… (and have I missed the statement of the Church “by law established”?) Thank you @RC_Southwark

Well, it’s nice to be able to retweet an Anglican for saying something solid for once!
All Christians have to now be clear. Infanticide and murdering the sick are against the natural law. Therefore, according to the entire witness of Christian tradition these ‘laws’ are invalid and are not laws. They can in principle be resisted by all non life-threatening means.
