Married priests exist in the Eastern Catholic Churches & in the Ordinariates. It isn’t right to mention support for them in the same breath as other issues.Married clergy are about discipline not doctrine German priest quits diocese over Fiducia supplicans thecatholicherald.com/article/german…
The Church teaches in Dei Verbum that Scripture is once for all by which the Church orients all its teaching. St John Paul in Ut Unum Sint tells us that it is the highest authority in matters of faith &that Tradition helps to interpret it or that it is living the Bible in Church.
Paul himself mentions abiding by his teachings, whether by either the spoken word or the written word. Many of the Catholic Church's beliefs were transmitted by the spoken word or simply implicit in Scripture.
Anglican claims to be Catholic have been negated by recent unilateral actions, which the Catholic, Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches begged them not to take. You can’t have it both ways.
It’s to distinguish Roman Catholics from other types of Catholics (Orthodox, Anglicans, etc.).
Eastern Catholics are in communion with the See of Rome but generally do not describe themselves as Roman but as Chaldean Catholic, Greek Catholic, Syrian Catholic etc. With the Orthodox, the Catholic Church understands itself to be in ‘ almost perfect communion’.
Anglicans aren’t Catholics though. Orthodox aren’t Catholics either. Only those in communion with the Patriarch of the West are Catholics.
Since Clement in 1stC Rome has authority over other churches, then Victor,Leo,Gregory etc.Definitions finalise what has been believed down the ages:of Mary immaculate(sinless),assumption(Rev12) &Petrine authority(Matt 16).Art 33:Church can ask for penance or remit it(indulgences)
Notice the word “executive”. Nobody is suggesting the pope didn’t have authority in C6. The assumption and immaculate conception (not sinlessness) of BVM were ruled on “infallibly” in C19 and 20. Final sentence irrelevant to original post.
This is correct since the Act of Supremacy. However, the Ecclesia Anglicana,in communion with the Holy See,has existed since Augustine’s time.We have much to learn from its special character within the Catholic Church, especially since the creation of the Ordinariates by P. Benedict
Anglicanism was invented in 1534. Prior to that and during the reign of Mary I, it was Catholic. I could recommend some books on the subject for you.
Augustine was sent here by the pope.Papal authority is necessary for unity of the Church. The dormition/assumption is universal in East &West. What do Anglicans do on 15 August? All the Reformers held to BVM’s sinlessness. On the Church’s power to remit or retain sins see Article33.
Augustine would have recognised little of executive papal supremacy, papal infallibility, indulgences, the assumption of Mary, the Immaculate Conception and many other modern Roman innovations. Anglicanism at its highest is a retrieval of the first millennium.
The faith which has given England its precious heritage is not that of a tribal church but of the Catholic Church brought here by Augustine &the Northern saints. It requires assent to a world view which results in the values he mentions. Some elements survive but we need the whole
I was very impressed by this excellent speech in Parliament.
Ms Abbott knows that Jewish people come in all colours, white, brown &black,as any visit to Israel will show us. Even here in the UK,there are Jews from Europe,Asia &Africa. In Israel, the majority is from the Middle East,Asia &Africa. Racism is intolerance to any kind of difference

Lovely pictures of babies but not all mitochondrial disease is life threatening.@1 in 200 births affected but only about 1 in 10,000 is severe. This technique results in some healthy babies but isn’t a cure for the ill. How many embryos(tiny humans) were destroyed in the process?

Good to note threats. He gives some egs of Christian restrictions on free speech but little about Christian promotion of it from Tertullian to Ambrose &Martin to the Dominicans in Europe &L America. In the 17th C we have Busher the Baptist &Overton the Leveller. We could go on……
Britain’s tortured relationship with free speech | Britain’s history of free speech is far from straightforward. Robert Tombs, a professor of history, examines a troubled relationship with censorship—from Cromwell’s blasphemy laws to today’s Twitter mobs. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/1…
We need justice for all Palestinians but the majority of Jews in the Land are from Muslim majority nations eg Yemen, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Iraq, Iran and others from India, C Asia, Ethiopia etc. In spite of large scale Russian immigration, it isn’t just European Jewry.
Giles, do you still support Zionism, a demonic, racist ideology based on the idea of European 'Jews' stealing land of Arabs?
Yes. This is why we need to argue that society needs a spiritual basis for its view of human dignity not just ad hominem and utilitarian reason for maintaining status quo positions.
In a formerly Christian, now agnostic, country, a sacredness-of-life ethic may survive the collapse of religion for a generation or two, but no longer.
Don’t squander your virginity for something that isn’t going to last. Keep it for someone you will cherish for a long time. We need to renew ways for young people to meet through family, friends, work and leisure. telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness…
Not Judaea but N Galilee.’Palestine’was used by Egyptians & Assyrians.Herodotus seems to have used it in the 5C BC.The Greek term possibly being a play on the word for wrestlers, denoting Israel as one who ‘wrestled’ with God. In the Bible,it refers to the land of the Philistines.
Actually, he "hailed" from Judea in Western Asia. No such place as "Palestine" existed until long after St. Peter was dead when the Roman Emperor Hadrian re-named Judea as "Palestina."
Journalists are claiming that if an Asian is elected, he will be the first Asian pope. He won’t be. The first Asian pope was, in fact, St Peter himself, who hailed from Palestine in Western Asia.
Easter is inextricably linked to the Passover in time and content.Christians cannot understand its events or the central sacrament of the Eucharist without understanding the Passover and how Jesus celebrates &transcends it as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
It isn’t just the BBC, Quangos like the HFEA also and will Catholics continue to find a place in Obs and Gyn, Geriatrics, LA Registries etc? Why BBC’s ‘Thought for the Day’ doesn’t want to hear from Catholics thecatholicherald.com/why-bbcs-thoug…
