Principal Investigator in a medical school in US. I love research and Formula 1. Contents are based on my personal opinions, not representing the lab or Univ.
Many authors start with the figures when writing a scientific paper, but according to Joshua Sanes, it's easier to tell a good story if you start with the Introduction and the Results and leave the figures for later. 24/n elifesciences.org/articles/50527…
PhD students—Do this and 90% of your paper problems will disappear. The secret to getting your papers accepted isn't what you think. It's about... 10 rules to structure your papers like you mean business. I wish I knew these when I started my PhD. Here they are:
Very sad with loss of one of the best immunologists, Dr. Emil Unanue. He had built our immunology program as a chair for 20 years and has been a great scientist, mentor and colleague. Fortunate to be a part of the program. RIP. @WUSTLImmuno @wusm_pathology @WUSTLmed @LaskerFDN
We're doing a thing! Speakers @HHMINEWS Science Meetings will no longer put journal names on their talk slides. Instead display first author, year, PMID (or DOI) like @ardemp Why? -end prestige-signaling -people can actually find reference #nojournalnamesontalkslides
Multiple tweets discussed systematic errors at CC[A/T]GG sites in whole plasmid @nanopore sequencing service provided by @plasmidsaurus and @PrimordiumLabs. Here are my two cents on (#1) what causes the errors & (#2) what (not) to do to get reliable sequence of your plasmids. 1/n
I do not appreciate many recent papers opting to put a figure and the legend on different pages even despite plenty of space on the page with the figure. This used to be getting frequent in Cell Press journals, but in many others now. Inconvenient for reading papers on a tablet.
Thank you, @SnellLaura , for an insightful commentary for our paper with @Satpathology @Stanfordin @ImmunityCP @CellPressNews . cell.com/immunity/fullt… cell.com/immunity/fullt…
We have an opening for a technician to help our efforts to understand gut microbe-immune interactions. This is an ideal position for someone wanting to head to graduate school. Lerner Research Institute is a great place to work and Cleveland is a fun and affordable place to live

We are looking for 1-2 postdocs who are interested in gene regulation in T and B cell differentiation in response to infection and suppression of leukemogenesis and lymphomagenesis. We have a lot of interesting ideas to tackle these questions. Let's do fun science together.
Average flight time for JL43 has been 12 hr 12 min over past 30 days. Today’s flight is scheduled to take 15 hr 12 min, adding a full 3 hours of flying time.
Looking for a lab tech starting in May. Expectation is managing mouse colonies and running a project after getting used to job. Good for someone seeking for research before going to grad school. Previous techs moved to good PhD programs, incl. WUSTL. Contact me if interested.
