Ukraine wants peace more than anyone. It is clear Putin is still playing games. We see no movement towards a ceasefire. We’re stepping up the pressure on Russia as we prepare a next round of sanctions. My doorstep ahead of the meeting of @NATO Defence Ministers ↓
We are standing firm. The EU just approved one of its strongest sanctions package against Russia to date. We’re cutting the Kremlin’s war budget further, going after 105 more shadow fleet ships, their enablers, and limiting Russian banks’ access to funding. (1/3)
The only way to get Putin to end his war is to force his hand. Europe is wholly committed to Ukraine. LIVE Press conference following today’s Foreign Affairs Council ↓
It is good news that the United States will deliver more weapons to Ukraine. We should help Ukrainians defend themselves. We also hope to reach a political agreement on our sanctions package. My doorstep ↓
The EU was founded on the idea that through shared prosperity we also build shared security. We find in ASEAN a natural partner to lead this work together. We cooperate for the benefit of us all. My speech at ASEAN regional forum → europa.eu/!ckpYQ3
Belarus: EU takes note of the recent release of several political prisoners. We continue to call on the Lukashenka regime to free all those arbitrarily detained, especially people in life-threatening conditions. Ongoing arrests, repression and human rights violations must stop.
Today is more than symbolic in Chișinău. The first EU-Moldova Summit marks a major step on Moldova’s path to the EU. We are by your side – through our Growth Plan, inclusion in EU roaming, swift pre-financing, and funding for infrastructure. The EU stands with Moldova's future
A historic step for Moldova and the EU. Today’s summit shows that Moldova is firmly on the path to a European future. With the support of @vonderleyen, @eucopresident, and all 27 member states, we are building it together—step by step. Thank you for walking this path with us.
Each time the world reaches out, Putin answers with missiles. Russia’s escalating attacks on Kyiv show that Moscow doesn’t want peace. Air defence systems and missiles are scarce everywhere. But Ukraine needs them now, every single day, to protect its people.
The 13th EU-China Strategic Dialogue took place today, 2 July in Brussels. The HR/VP @kajakallas met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss matters of common interest and the wider geopolitical situation. Read more: europa.eu/!KXkRbW
Good to host FM of China Wang Yi for talks. We covered a lot of ground. I urged Beijing to find solutions to rebalance our economic relations and to stop enabling Russia’s war against Ukraine. I addressed human rights issues and we discussed the crises in the Middle East.
Every inch of Russia’s war has been documented. There is no room for doubt – and no room for impunity. The agreement between President @ZelenskyyUa and @coe to set up a Special Tribunal sends a clear message: no one in Russia’s leadership is untouchable.
Georgia: The politically motivated persecution & arrests of opposition leaders go against basic democratic values. These are authoritarian tactics, opposite of what is expected from an EU candidate country. Georgian Dream must stop weaponising the justice system.
Canada is one of the EU’s closest partners – and a trusted friend. Today, I am proud to sign a new Security and Defence Partnership with Canada. At a time of rising tensions, it will deepen our defence ties and unlock new cooperation.
EU Foreign Ministers met today to discuss a wide range of issues: 🔹 Situation in the Middle East 🔹 Russian aggression against Ukraine 🔹 China and European security My press conference following the Foreign Affairs Council ↓
Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, as it would be a threat to international security. I urge all sides to step back, return to the negotiating table and prevent further escalation. EU Foreign Ministers will discuss the situation tomorrow.
The release of Siarhei Tsikhanouski and 13 other political prisoners marks a positive step after prolonged injustice. I welcome the US engagement that made this possible and share the joy of families reunited. But all political prisoners in Belarus must be freed.
My husband Siarhei is free! It’s hard to describe the joy in my heart. Thank you, 🇺🇸 @POTUS, @SPE_Kellogg, @JohnPCoale, DAS Christopher W. Smith, @StateDept & our 🇪🇺 allies, for all your efforts. We’re not done. 1150 political prisoners remain behind bars. All must be released.
My joint statement with the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom ↓ europa.eu/!KwnF4D
Russia escalates its war. So we increase the pressure on them to stop. Our new sanctions proposals seek to cut Russia’s energy revenues with a $45 oil price cap, ban more shadow vessels, while slowing down its military industry. x.com/i/broadcasts/1…
As of June, the EU-Chile Advanced Framework Agreement enters into provisional application. It strengthens our partnership, enhances joint action on security, climate, green energy and digital & creates space for more cooperation. Joint statement here → europa.eu/!3F47hC
The @IntlCrimCourt upholds justice in the face of the most serious crimes. It must remain free from pressure and true to its principles. We will always support its vital work and protect its independence.
