Hey, putting a reminder out to researchers that I do skeletals for commission If you have a paper that needs a skeletal diagram I’m your woman 2D or 3D my shark anatomy can’t be beat I’d really appreciate it if you spread the word or refer me to folks who need skeletals

This video is pure nonsense, and @CommunityNotes ought to say so clearly. There’s NO net—just a crate of chum baiting sharks, plainly visible in the frame. That lemon shark isn’t being rescued, it’s being harassed. The shark’s injury? A stinger from Joel’s own speargun. He…

I.e., the same thing dinosaur fans were told in the '80s with the Dinosaur Renaissance. The difference in reaction is telling. Dinosaur fans went "hell yeah". Dunkleosteus fans *lost their goddamn mind*.
What's especially wild is Dunk fans were told "rather than being a sluggish, lumbering primordial brute and an evolutionary dead-end, your favorite animal was likely an active, fast-moving predator and part of a highly successful lineage, and possibly even warm blooded".
Can confirm I’ve been on the receiving end of utterly bizarre & made-up rumours & had weird encounters with meg fanboys. The parasocial-ness is mad. It really puts a dent in it because the vast majority of enthusiasts are respectful, passionate & often have a lot to offer.
Some palaemonids from my (very recently) former job. Palaemon macrodactylus, P. kadiakensis, P. modestus, and Macrobrachium cf. nipponense.
This is abhorrent This is awful The worst I’ll do it call someone’s reconstruction shit While people are always doing way worse like this to people who are way more effected by said comments
This isn't unheard of, for what it's worth. I've heard similar stories about tyrannosaur and megalodon workers getting death threats from angry fans or having colleagues spread rumors about them. It seems to be a hazard of working with charismatic megafaunal predators.
This is what happens when we paleontology as fandom You get death threats, insults, and sometimes blocked from collections if you DARE go against the status quo From the public and academia Wanna Burn it all down at this point
The author of that paper got tons of nasty personal comments and even a couple of death threats because of its conclusions. Others got so offended at the paper they tried spreading rumors about the author's academic credibility. Totally disproportionate response.
