Contrary to popular belief, most sharks don’t have to swim nonstop to breathe. These two juvenile whitetip reef sharks are opening and closing their mouths to pump water over their gills. It’s called buccal pumping—and it lets them rest comfortably while getting plenty of oxygen.
The southern stingray hunts by gliding over sand, vacuuming up snacks hidden below. So next time you’re stomping around the ocean floor, remember: you’re basically knocking over somebody’s fridge.
The Cincinnati airport has fossils. Did you know there’s no law preventing ALL airports from doing this? #fossilfriday

He’s the one who got the fish caught. There is no net. He was baiting the sharks. He works for a dive company, Emerald Charters, and didn’t “happen upon them.” This is really sad.

Hey, @people, he was baiting the sharks. You can literally see the bait bucket in the video. He also got the shark stuck in the stringer of his speargun. It was a chartered shark dive. I’m not exactly sure how you could print this. people.com/diver-bit-by-a…

Sometimes, it can be both #FossilFriday and #FlatSharkFriday. This is a heliobatis from the Green River formation in Wyoming.

It’s amazing. Evolution is wild.
#Finfact: Some sharks can “walk.” I'm not kidding - epaulette sharks use their fins to "walk" along reefs and tide pools. Don't worry, you won't see them wandering the seafood aisle of your local grocery story any time soon.
So, he got the shark caught in the stinger of his own speargun. He was spearfishing next to baited sharks (you can see the bait box in the video). He wasn’t rescuing it from a net. I’ve been in the water with this EXACT shark. Leave the shark alone. I’m with the 🍋🦈.
Terrifying video captures the moment shark conservation activist Jeff Joel was bit while trying to free a lemon shark that was stuck in a fishing net.
This is A, the Japanese bullhead shark (Heterodontus japonicus). Found along rocky reefs near Japan, this small, distinctive shark features blunt teeth adapted for crushing shellfish and crustaceans.

Hammerheads evolved around 20 million years ago, giving evolution a chance to get properly weird. Nine species still patrol the seas; sadly, some are at risk.
Read: a shark swam in the ocean. Again, sharks don’t invade. That’s their home. This isn’t heart-pounding.
A heart-pounding moment as a shark cuts off the divers' path to safety 🫣🦈 Don't miss Great White North Invasion on Tuesday at 8p as #SharkWeek continues all week on @Discovery.
You ask for juvenile lemon sharks—you get more juvenile lemon sharks.
This isn’t science, it’s sensationalism. Provoking sharks into feeding frenzies isn’t research, it’s harassment—and calling it an “attack” reinforces harmful myths. Shark Week would be better if it educated people the way David Attenborough does: respectfully and honestly.
5% to 10% of known shark attacks happen during scuba dives. So Paul and his team attempt a daring dive: feed a decoy limb to a swarm of hungry predators. 🦈 #SharkWeek starts tonight at 8p on @Discovery.
If ever this was a snoot to boop… This is a juvenile lemon shark. They grow up in mangroves, which are becoming critically threatened habitat. Isn’t this shark perfect?!

Enjoy two blue sharks because…you deserve two blue sharks in your life.
If you said shark, you’re right! This is an Angelshark. And they’re really fun to dive with.
Shark or No Shark?
