A new era of climate justice begins today. We must implement yesterday's monumental advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. States must accelerate actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Today is National Children's Day in Vanuatu! What a gift!
For a different perspective on the historic International Court of Justice advisory opinion on climate justice, see Fox News (which often refers to climate change as a "hoax" despite overwhelming scientific evidence): foxnews.com/world/un-court…
Every child has the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment 💙 In a landmark advisory opinion led by the Government of Vanuatu and young people from the Pacific, the @CIJ_ICJ has recognized the impacts of climate change on children’s right to life and health.

There is a lot to unpack in this ICJ opinion - and Seb and others are doing a great job of describing as the opinion is read - but I want to highlight the Court’s historic and emphatic recognition of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment!

Never doubt the power of youth to change the world. Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change & World Youth for Climate Justice caused the world's highest court to deliver a ground-breaking ruling that will spark action to address the climate crisis. icj-cij.org/sites/default/…
In 2019, I was invited to support the Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change as they began a bold campaign seeking the world's highest court's guidance on State obligations to address the climate crisis. I did so happily, but never dreamed they would succeed so strongly!
A Big Day for #ClimateJustice! #ICJAO confirms achieving the 1.5°C is not just our moral duty, but a binding obligation of all countries under the Paris Agreement. States are must ensure highest ambition in Nationally Determined Contributions to hold the 1.5°C limit. #SIDSLead
The #ClimateICJAO confirms that those who polluted must answer to those who paid the price. People cannot thrive in a polluted world. This is what #ClimateJusticeAtTheICJ means. #AOLetsGO Like, share, and comment if you believe in righting the wrongs.
46/ This is a powerful judicial reaffirmation of a universal right recognized by the UN General Assembly in its resolution 76/300 three years ago!
45/ ⚖️🌱The Court. "The human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment is therefore inherent to other human rights. Under international law, the RtHE is essential to the enjoyment of other human rights."
