This. Is. Phenomenal. Corrie characters aghast at “London?”
We had so much fun too!!
There’s a special pleasure going to a performance where the audience is determined to have a good time, the performers are intent on providing it and they absolutely deliver it: such was L’elisir d’amore @RoyalOperaHouse tonight. An unalloyed delight from start to finish.
.@E_N_O has been granted an additional three years to develop plans for a move outside of London, in a U-turn that has seen Arts Council England award it £24 million to support its plans bit.ly/3DxzBTk

I was so proud to be part of Innocence recently. Such a powerful work.
The Royal Opera is saddened to hear of the death of the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho. One of the most significant composers of her day, she made an immense impact on Royal Opera House audiences, most recently with Innocence – described as a ‘modern masterpiece’ (The Telegraph)
The Danger of Minimalist Design (& the death of detail) A short thread...
Did you enjoy the #Coronation music? Hear from @XanderArmstrong why church music and musicians need your support – now, more than ever 🎶 "Music that's loved by people all around the world, but under threat. Find your local choir and go and support it."
I’m obviously an idiot. Because I didn’t know Jay Rayner was Claire Rayner’s son. But of course he is. Clever, Insightful, Critical without being mean. Love both of them.
This is a very lovely story. #proud
How dare you tweet this, given the state of arts funding in this country?! My profession is on its knees as a *direct result* of iconoclastic funding decisions taken by ACE, in hock to a philistine govt. A few years ago you were telling me to retrain in cyber. Gobsmacking.
The UK has a world leading creative sector with our musicians, artists, fashion labels and publishers known across the world. In the last decade this sector has grown over 1.5x faster than the UK economy – boosting jobs, opportunities and growth for people across the country.
This is me before the #coronationconcert it has been absolutely amazing. Glad to be part of it. Very proud to be with the #royalopera and my best friends and colleagues. We’ve had a ball. Congratulations to all.

This thread. Paul Wynne Griffiths has been a legend in my ROH lifetime. And the most supportive coach. We will miss him. ☺️☺️☺️
The ROH orch making sure Paul Wynne Griffiths got some well-deserved recognition before Act 3 of #ROHTurandot in his last scheduled performance with the company before his retirement at the end of this season. An unbelievably experienced, kind & knowledgable conductor & mentor.
A touching look back at yesterday's performance of Songs for Ukraine Watch the Royal Opera Chorus and more than 130 London-based Ukrainians, including individuals displaced by the war, as they perform a range of works from their collaborative project. #RoyalOperaHouse
Absolutely incredible.

In London's Covent Garden, 130 members of a Ukrainian choir file into St Paul's Church for rehearsal. Some are professionals while others are relative novices. The collective will perform at the Royal Opera House, in a sold-out concert dedicated to Ukraine u.afp.com/ihmq
what one piece of advice would you give a visitor to the UK, mine is that tap water is free in *all* restaurants
