Remember back when Covid hit and everything shut down. The federal government to help sent people cheques. They said people needed $2000 minimum to survive. Everyone got that yet disabled nothing. So ODSP is nearly $1400/mo. Yet even they admitted $2000 was a poverty rate

Right now, it's faster for a disabled person in Canada to get approved for MAID than it is to be approved for the federal Disability Tax Credit. The DTC is a pre-requisite for applying for the newly released federal Canada Disability Benefit.

A reminder: framing homelessness as a problem of mental illness or addiction has been politically manufactured to divert attention from its *actual* causes—skyrocketing rents, poverty wages, gutted social supports—and to justify the removal of homeless people from public space.

Facts! It took 5 weeks for my Dr to fill in the DTC forms, CRA is saying 16-18 weeks to process. IF I manage to be approved, I can apply for the CDB, another possible 6-8 weeks there, or I have to appeal the DTC decision; UP to 6 months. MAiD could be done in as little as 91 days

This doesn't lift anyone out of poverty. This won't deter people pressured to use MAID. This is legislated destitution wrapped in multiple barriers to bar access. It's nothing to celebrate. It's something to shame. Just as UN CRPD did in the report released earlier this year.

Lifting nobody from poverty as was claimed but it’s all so historical and significant, be grateful for this safety net that the government has installed. It just has a hole in it, so maybe you can grab on if you fall. If you fall and expect that this net will catch you, it won’t.
