‘We see this in education policy and initiative repeatedly. The fashion for rapid reform, for scrapping of what works because it bears the fingerprints of a previous minister. The fetishisation of novelty.’ Another nail on the head blog from @EmathsUK

NEW BLOG: Too Nice to be Good? Why tolerating mediocrity is a failure of both kindness and duty. emaths.co.uk/blog/general-e…

Really enjoyed this! I find that idea of misdirected compassion being damaging really interesting. Sadly seen this problem play out many times in the schools I have been in. Hopefully lots of SLT will read and reflect on your work.
"School is not meant to reflect back a child’s existing world. It is meant to offer new worlds." Why culturally-relevant teaching is simply bigotry in another form. loom.ly/O9dh3pQ
Beautiful words and so very rarely understood by leaders in education...sincerity is the missing part...leading to just make things better for the sake of making it better!

A reflection on changes in education. Excellent as always. I hope those in a position to make a difference read your blog first.
“If we allow cultural capital to be inherited rather than taught, then we give up on justice. We allow background to dictate future. We let go of one of the very reasons schools exist.” @EmathsUK

I am currently reading Mathematical Tasks by Chris McGrane and Mark McCourt. I also follow several UK maths teachers and really enjoy the tasks they share. It makes me wonder about task design - is it part of the teacher training program or just related to who I follow?
🧠 Teach until they can’t get it wrong – I really enjoyed this blog from @EmathsUK on making learning stick. Mark McCourt reminds us: it’s not about coverage, it’s about mastery. My favourite takeaway is: 💬 “Treat a correct answer as the start of learning, not the end.”
