Movement deviation from the spin axis is a key component for pitch classification. Sweepers have SSW lift, sinkers, changeups and splitters drop, while cutters cut but sliders don't.

Greg Maddux’s command wasn’t just elite — it was historic. New data shows just how far ahead of the curve he really was. 📊 Full breakdown in our newest blog: drivelinebaseball.com/2025/07/greg-m…
Ben Brown's curveball (more of a "deathball" slider tbh) is amazing, but his fastball is meh and his split changeup has good shape, but doesn't get the whiffs it should (batters don't chase it). Really wish he'd throw a cutter at 92-93 and a sinker.

Our cat is chasing a fly in the house. He’s showing a patient approach, bordering on passive. His instincts in the field are questionable, but he tracks the fly well. Whiff rates on his swats are a big concern.
Very early, but Carter Jensen's data are incredible to start his Triple-A career.

I put a lot of time and effort into this omnibus edition of Statcast Standouts. Please take the time to read it, even if it's just the section for your favourite team. baseballamerica.com/stories/unhera…
Read this and I feel very confident you will learn something about your team's draft that you did not know. From @EliBenPorat baseballamerica.com/stories/unhera…
I don't track pulled fly balls as a subset. PCA's power surge sure looks real, given the launch angles and plus raw power. Not sure the chase slugging will continue at this pace, but maybe it will!
Would you be able to generate one of these for PCA, specifically his EV on pulled fly balls, not just all fly balls?
Brock Jones, my favourite archetype to follow. Please don't look up his slash line. Ironically, similar age to Spencer Jones, no direct relation.

Haha, should have trusted my eyes more, until the next time when they lie to me. Sometimes the small sample stuff is noise, sometimes it's a swing change and suddenly a dude is a launch angle monster. Glad I was consistent with the Wallner comp, forgot I wrote this.
That's another uppercut swing for Spencer Jones. If this is indeed a real swing change, and not my eyes lying to me, it's worth every short-term whiff, and a huge credit to the Yankees dev system. Could be Matt Wallner with better D? I'm intrigued.
What tool would @BrewersPD star Jesús Made borrow from a current big league star? Francisco Lindor's confidence. Awesome answer ⤵️
Owen Caissie, 2025 vs 2024. Basically the same guy contact and discipline wise, but hitting the ball much much harder.

Spencer Jones' zone contact continues to trend up, launch angles remain elite. What a transformation from a low launch angle guy, to an elevate and celebrate guy.

The early data on JJ Wetherholt are a great example of why we should always take small samples with a grain of salt. I'd ignore the zone contact for now. The EVs and launch angles are really interesting. Might headline with him next week.

My eyes tell me this is elite bad speed from Sebastian Walcott. Can't wait to for him to make the majors so I can know how accurate my eyes are.
Cowabunga! Sebastian Walcott drills his 10th homer of the season to give the Riders the lead!
Matt Wallner in CF = Spencer Jones.
Back in the lineup. Back to hitting bombs! 💣 Spencer Jones homers in his first at-bat after yesterday's rest day, going back-to-back with Everson Pereira against the @WooSox! It's Jones' eighth homer in 15 games at Triple-A, sailing 433-feet at 107.4 mph off the bat.
Casey Hintz has got a wacky arsenal. Can basically has to throw his sweeper right at righties to get it over the plate. Very cool.
