EDF Healthy Communities
@EDFHealth
Helping @EnvDefenseFund support people’s health by cutting air & climate pollution & getting toxic chemicals out of our food, water, products & communities.
Trump's EPA has offered the chemical industry exemptions from a rule that would limit pollution from 218 of the nation’s worst polluters. These facilities put close to 10 million people at higher risk of developing cancer. Full story from @pubhealthwatch: bit.ly/3I8Rn58

Yes, good climate and health news is still happening! 👇
From outfitting new homes in England with solar panels to California’s successful climate program to a first-of-its-kind satellite that will weigh the world's forests, these recent wins remind us that we can (and must) keep fighting for a stronger future. vitalsigns.edf.org/story/good-cli…
Trucks & buses are just 10% of vehicles, but over 50% of the toxic air pollution linked to asthma, heart disease & cancer. With federal support for clean options in retreat, state and local governments are stepping up. Read more: bit.ly/3HwFZiR #cleantrucks #health
"Most Americans have no idea that the FDA puts synthetic and potentially carcinogenic additives in the same category as salt. It’s called GRAS — 'generally recognized as safe' — yet it’s anything but." -@rosadelauro via @WashingtonPost wapo.st/4o4NPRP

To echo EDF’s Andrew Baxter, I'm deeply disappointed to see a return to the gas flaring levels of 2007. Reducing this “egregious waste of resources” is low-hanging fruit. We need stronger limits and protections on this pollution and waste.
🚨 NEW @WorldBank report finds that global flaring has reached its highest level since 2007. Reducing flaring is possible — and critical to reducing emissions, improving energy security, and limiting harm to human health. Via @NiranjanAjit @guardian: theguardian.com/environment/20…
First it was 68 coal plants. Now POTUS wants to exempt more toxic polluters, from more coal plants to petrochemical facilities. This will result in more cancer-causing pollution. More communities at risk. EDF will vigorously oppose this damaging action. edf.org/media/presiden…
Don't believe the hype—advanced recycling isn't recycling. It creates a toxic mess of chemicals like lead, dioxins and PFAS that make us sick.
Actually, “advanced recycling” is just burning plastic 🫠
Cancer causing chemicals don't belong in our food. Today, @SenMarkey & @senbooker introduced the Ensuring Safe and Toxic-Free Foods Act that will require the @US_FDA to restrict ingredients that harm reproductive and developmental health. Our chemicals policy expert weighs in.

The Trump administration is trying to roll back the protections that keep us safe from pollution from power plants – one of the U.S.’s biggest sources of air and climate pollution. Click through to tell EPA – keep these safeguards in place. bit.ly/4kw1Apy
NEWS: U.S. Reps Schakowsky & DeLauro have reintroduced the Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2025, directing the FDA to re-evaluate chemicals in food that slipped through loopholes or haven’t been reviewed in decades. Read their full statement: bit.ly/4lmcf7v

No one: EPA in the year 2025: Fossil fuel power plants "don't significantly contribute" to making extreme weather more dangerous.
The EPA wants to scrap pollution limits on power plants. It defies science and puts our health at risk.
Air pollution poses the greatest environmental health risk of our time, with airborne pollutants responsible for approximately one-third of deaths from heart attacks. Explore how UNEP works with governments, businesses & individuals to #BeatAirPollution: unep.org/beatpollution/…
Forecasters say this hurricane season will be worse than usual—and we know why: climate change is fueling more extreme storms. The Trump admin is making it even more dangerous and costly by weakening protections and silencing science. Full story: bit.ly/4edcXRD

The Trump administration is planning to undo a ban on the last remaining uses of asbestos...yes, that asbestos. The cancer causing one.

Happy #Juneteenth! We’re celebrating Black leaders and recognizing generations of critical progress. There's still a lot to be done to protect voting rights, defend our democracy and deliver clean air and water for everyone—and we’re all in it together. ❤️ 🖤 💚
Hazardous chemical accidents happen in the U.S. about every other day. Who will investigate them now? grist.org/energy/trump-q…
Did you know there are at least 1,000 ingredients in our food that have never gotten a safety check by the FDA? In a new op-ed in @TheHill, Maria Doa and Maricel Maffini break down how this happened and how FDA can fix it: bit.ly/3SM6h3k
