We had 350 neighbourhood hubs in 2014 now it’s just 305! GPs at the heart of communities provide continuity and cradle to grave care. Let’s not throw baby out with the bath water or reinvent the wheel. The most cost effective part of our NHS needs more investment to deliver more!
The health minister Mike Nesbitt has said he plans to bring more services closer to communities as part of a reset plan for health and social care in Northern Ireland. bbc.in/44ocSaE
Without a properly resourced and politically supported GP service, reset is a pipedream. GPs are the beating heart of community healthcare, trusted advisors, educators, tireless advocates for patients England-GPs-9.5% of health budget NI-5.4% of health budget See the problem?

I’m not sure an entire profession can shout any louder about the crisis and the harm that they see in front of them. This is about basic access, staffing, safety and effective care. It’s not offensive sound bites about ‘sumptuous 3 course meals’
GP partners in Northern Ireland have voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking collective action as part of their fight for increased funding for general practice. Read the full statement from @OHaganFrances here - bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…
Wow, that’s a statement if ever there was one! Bearing in mind that GPs are a very heterogenous group, for our Minister to unify them all in such a manner is an astounding achievement. Ball now firmly in his court.

GP partners in Northern Ireland have voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking collective action in a row over funding for general practice More to follow.
Any wonder when the funding increase equates to a penny per patient per week!? Can a penny buy you literally anything? @mikenesbittni thinks it buys you an unlimited 3 course banquet of GP appointments 🙄🤦♀️

GP additional funding 2025/6 England £969m Scotland £290m Wales £52m NI £1m All have the same pressures, same plans and same priorities. Never ever be shocked or surprised that you can’t access simple, basic health care in NI or why our NHS is collapsing
Unfortunately the surgery was vandalised last night. Anyone with any information please contact PSNI
That's now 4.9% of total funding. Imagine what could be done with twice the funding and that would still be less that where it should be 🤯 The 80 mil ask is a fraction of what is needed but it would have been a blooming good start!
Don’t know how the demand capacity gap can be closed when relative funding is going down! The 8.30 am scramble for an appointment is the GP equivalent of waiting lists. Our patients and our GP teams deserve more

£414 - of £8.5 billion. Tells you all you need to know about whether or not it's a priority. (I can answer that on a one pager, if needed)...🙄🙄🙄

Of the 360 dental practices in N.I, just TWO fully NHS. GP’s on same trajectory. A GP appt costs £39.23 (9 min consultation) an A&E visit costs min £359 (King’s Fund). GPs prevent A&E visits, it makes financial & health sense, to fund them properly before it is TOO LATE.
An excellent piece. Clearly Deirdre Heenan understands. Pity @mikenesbittni doesnt

My GPs doors are open, there's no buzzer to get in,the receptionists are pleasant & helpful. The last time I called about my sick child, late in the day,I was called back within an hour, problem dealt with over the phone & prescription issued. #SaveGP @mikenesbittni @rcgp_ni
If you are one of the 200,000 patients in NI who had a GP appointment in the last week or have positive stories about accessing your GP can you let @mikenesbittni know? He says his GP saved his life,we now need everyones help to #SaveGP Tweet & tag @mikenesbittni or email him

I really fear that if General Practice is allowed to crumble and collapse, the whole of the NHS will fail. Fixing the foundation before that happens is vital!
RCGPNI's press release in response to imposition of GP contract and Health Minister's comments on GP access:
Very proud of our college's response to recent remarks and events 👏👏👏 While RCGPNI are not involved in contract negotiations we all need to stand up for ourselves as a profession and call out this disrespectful and derogatory narrative. @mikenesbittni @rcgp_ni

RCGPNI's press release in response to imposition of GP contract and Health Minister's comments on GP access:
We understand the challenges in accessing your GP, we want to make it better, but we can't do it without increased funding. Problems with access are caused by low levels of funding. Please help us turn the tide @rcgp_ni @ursulaamason
The Health Minister says he's ‘shifting left’ and aims to put the focus back into community care, yet GPs are struggling to keep their services from drowning. It’s time for the Minister to put his words into action and deliver a suitable GP funding contract. - @NualaMcAllister
