... but if you asked those MPs whether they would prefer a Liberal or Labor minority government, it's pretty clear that 19 of them (i.e. all LAB, GRN, IND) would say Labor. #politas
My current best estimate of the seat totals are LIB 14 ALP 10 GRN 5 IND 4 SFF 1 (!), with a crapshoot to come for the last seat in Bass. I don’t see Labor deciding to form government after this performance, even if they could.
The landmark ruling means Australia must reduce emissions in line with the best science, and regulate the fossil fuel industry to prevent further harm. @wtmpacific @UNSW theconversation.com/worlds-highest…
You’ll be thrilled to learn that the Australian government’s contribution to the deliberations on this case was to argue strongly against it. Thankfully those efforts failed.
Countries have wide-ranging obligations to adequately tackle climate change, the International Court of Justice has found. Those who don't could be legally liable. @MCFunimelb @unimelb theconversation.com/historic-rulin…

I'm ecstatic. I've watched my community of Lismore drowned by Labor + LNP govts, koalas burned alive by bushfires, livelihoods torn about by the coal and gas industry. These decisions give communities a glimmer of hope that they've never had before!
After 21 months of the Gaza genocide, the Australian govenment has finally begun issuing sanctions... against a Greens Senator.
Labor has sanctioned Mehreen Faruqi for holding up a sign in the Senate, but won’t sanction Israel for its genocide in Gaza. It’s like peaceful activism is worse than murdering countless Palestinian babies.
The Labor Party has imposed more sanctions on Senator Faruqi than they have on Israel for committing a genocide in Gaza. And there has not been a single sanction from Labor for the shameful racism from One Nation Senators we saw in federal parliament this week.
Penny Wong has moved a censure motion against Mehreen Faruqi for holding up this sign in Parliament. The ALP sink deeper and deeper into genocide complicity.
The ALP in the Senate right now showing that they are more angry about people protesting genocide than the actual carrying out of genocide
so the government doesn't want transparency nor any light shone on their MPs. This is a disgrace in our democracy especially for those who have independent reps. We should know how they vote on any issue.
Another $800 million to the US for AUKUS, bringing the total to $1.6 billion sent to the US this year. This money goes straight into the US military, no strings attached and no clawback.
as the Governor-General gives an opening speech for the new parliament in the Senate, in front of all MPs and senators, Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi is in her seat silently holding up a large sign: "Gaza is starving, words won't feed them, sanction Israel"
In 2020, Arundhati Roy wrote a gorgeous, prescient essay called “The Pandemic is a Portal”. In this piece, I discuss who actually walked through it: the COVID conscious community, and why I’m proud to be a part of it. thegauntlet.news/p/the-pandemic…
Jill Stein has socials, you know. If you followed you'd know she's been more present at protest events & political discussions than Kamala, who for whatever reason, is allowed to fuck off after blowing $1.5B on a 3 month celebrity studded party while losing to Donald Trump.
75 year old retired Harvard educated physician Dr. Jill Stein is still actively fighting for the rights of working people, Palestinians, & other marginalized groups. Meanwhile, we last saw Kamala at the Met Gala.
Where does Jill Stein go for three years between Presidential elections? Where does she live? Does she have a job?
Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.

There’s a lot of people in northern Tasmania who voted Labor at the federal election and Liberal at the state election. #politas
Great result for the Greens in the Tasmanian election tonight! Well done @rosaliewoodruff & her team: re-electing all our Greens MPs, positive swings to Greens across the state, and in a position to help form a progressive government (if Labor chooses to work collaboratively)
