MSP for the Highlands and Islands. Posts promoted by D Ross, 67 Northumberland Street, Edinburgh, EH3 6JG.
It was really good to join another large crowd at Moray Leisure Centre today, full of inspiring individuals from figure skating, curling and Ice hockey. All united in their determination to keep the rink in Elgin open - as am I.

This afternoon’s update from Moray Leisure Centre is being presented as a reprieve, but I fear that once the Ice Rink closes, it won’t reopen. I’ll continue to work with users of the rink and cross-party colleagues to avoid this closure. The rink is a vital facility for Moray.

Statistics show that Labour’s disastrous tax policies are crippling British family farms with record numbers of closures this year. Labour do not understand our rural communities and our rural communities cannot afford Labour. The @Conservatives will axe the Family Farm Tax.
🗓 I’ll be holding summer surgeries across Moray from 5 to 15 August – with stops in over 30 towns and villages including Keith, Lossiemouth, Forres, Dufftown and many more. No appointment needed – just come to raise any local or national issues.

Labour’s Family Farm Tax is an awful policy, threatening future generations of farmers – but now the policy wonks are giving themselves awards for it. Absolutely disgusting.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jamie McGrigor. Jamie was a kind and dedicated MSP who served the Highlands and Islands with real passion and commitment. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
⛸️🏒 The closure of Moray Leisure Centre's ice rink is a huge blow to local clubs, athletes and the community. Generations have trained here and gone on to succeed at home and abroad. I’ve written to the Scottish Government urging them to step in. hellorayo.co.uk/mfr/local/news…
🗓️ Today marks one year since traffic lights were installed at the Union Bridge in Keith. 🚧 Shamefully, the works are still ongoing – with another delay announced just last week. This must now be treated as a priority. The town has suffered for long enough.
The bosses at NHS Fife need to go, their handling of this case has been nothing short of shambolic. They should resign immediately – if they won’t then they should be sacked.
In their zeal to embrace bonkers SNP gender ideology, NHS bosses destroyed the career of a nurse and wasted huge sums of taxpayers' money. Is John Swinney the only person in Scotland who still thinks Sandie Peggie's treatment is okay?
🚧 Enough is enough. This latest delay is unacceptable. No wonder this update was snuck out late on a Friday – clearly to dodge more embarrassing coverage. Tonight I’ve written to the SNP Transport Secretary and Amey seeking an urgent meeting with senior bosses.

This latest revelation about PD Zara is deeply concerning. A police dog put down despite a vet’s optimism – and now confirmation that finances were a factor in that decision. I’m meeting senior Police Scotland officers shortly to discuss the case further.

Dear John, get on with the day job instead of your constant, divisive and exhausting whinging. Thanks.
Officers are appealing for information following a crash on the A96 near Nairn. Around 2.40pm on Thursday, 17 July, we were made aware of a crash involving a black Yamaha RZF125 motorcycle and a Kia Niro between Nairn and Forres at Wester Hardmuir. More: orlo.uk/JkGMo
Good to see @TimEagleHI isn’t letting the SNP rural affairs minister away with this. I wonder if it would have taken so long to visit the site if it was in the central belt? 🤔
When major events like wildfires happen, ministers should come out and show their support for the local community. Jim Fairlie was nowhere to be seen.
This is the cost of Labour’s tax rises – and the worst part, more are on the way!
The revised estimate of employees on the payroll in May 2025 was down 25,000 on the month. The provisional estimate for June 2025 was down another 41,000. Read the article ➡ ons.gov.uk/employmentandl…
HMRC payrolls fall ANOTHER 41k in June...8 straight monthly declines...every single month since the Budget last year...
🚨 Inflation has risen again to 3.6%, hammering families with higher prices. 🥀 Labour promised economic stability – instead, they’re making life more expensive for hardworking people.

Glad to see Sandie Peggie cleared of the gross misconduct charges. But no one should be punished for standing up for women’s rights – at the very least, NHS Fife owe her a full and unreserved apology. heraldscotland.com/news/25316918.…
Keith Rollinson was killed in Elgin last year while doing his job as a bus driver. New figures show violence at bus stations is still rising because the nationalists’ soft-touch justice lets offenders off the hook. The SNP must act now before more lives are lost.
The SNP’s soft-touch approach to crime is making life more dangerous for bus users across Scotland 👇 It’s time for SNP ministers to get serious about punishing violent behaviour.
Delighted to see the 20th @IslandGamesAsso @Orkney2025 starting strongly in Orkney. With 24 nations and nearly 2,000 athletes across 12 events, it’s a brilliant celebration of island heritage and sporting excellence. Best of luck to all taking part! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
