The disability allowance rate is worth €5 less in real value now than its 2020 value, due to ongoing inflation and insufficient rate increases. #Budget2026 must change this, and also bring in a #CostOfDisability payment. #DeliverTheStepChange #DisabilityBudget26
With living costs rising and income gaps widening, now is the time to act. #Ireland’s core social welfare rates fall short of what's needed for a life of dignity. A €25 weekly increase is essential to reduce #poverty & ensure #income adequacy. Read more: socialjustice.ie/article/increa…

means testing punishes disabled people for trying to live our lives and participate in society. it punishes us for finding love, receiving support or daring to work. there are over forty bands of mean testing for disability allowance. there are only two bands for income tax.
Got a letter saying my Disability Allowance is being stopped because my husband and I earn less than €80 over the weekly threshold, so I no longer qualify. Happy Wednesday.
So sorry to hear this @niamhnih. Our #Budget26 submission highlights this issue. If means-testing must happen, only the disabled person's income should be assessed - not that of their family member, partner, or anyone else they live with. bit.ly/4ly5Cze

This morning at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Equality, our Director of Advocacy Emer Begley is calling for stronger protections for disabled people in Ireland’s equality laws. We need a rights-based definition of disability and real access to justice.

DFI is attending the @welfare_ie #Budget2026 #PreBudgetForum today. We'll be making the case for strong action on disability poverty, which is shockingly high. It's time to bring in a Cost of Disability payment.

Great that @SVP_Ireland are backing calls for a Cost of Disability payment in #Budget2026. "The extra costs of living with disability or ill health are pushing people into hardship and deprivation." Read their submission: bit.ly/455rL1U
