Diana Johnson DBE MP 🇬🇧🇺🇦🌈
@DianaJohnsonMP
Labour MP Hull North and Cottingham. Minister for Policing & Crime . ❤️Strong Yorkshire tea, cake, crime novels, black Labradors & a splash of red.
We inherited an immigration system in chaos. In the past year we've made progress removing foreign criminals, cutting the asylum backlog and clamping down on illegal working. Further Government action to strengthen UK border security is being opposed by the Tories and Reform.
On 18 June 1984, the violent clashes at Orgreave and the discredited evidence that followed left lasting scars on the community. This autumn, a public inquiry will begin to uncover the truth, holding those responsible to account and helping to restore confidence in policing.
Anyone using Hull Paragon Station today should be aware of this. However, I suspect that they would prefer not to have cause to complain in the first place.
This would be inconceivable and simply not tolerated at the London end of the rail route to Hull.
⚠️ STATION UPDATE: 23/07/25 #Hull Station: All toilets are out of order at Hull station. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to your journey today
What the Shadow Home Secretary fails to mention here is that of the 1,316 decline in officer numbers since 31 March 2024, 94% of them were cut by June of last year. This was under the previous Government - when he was the Policing Minister.
Police workforce figures just out for March 31st 2025 show Police Officer numbers by headcount *DOWN* by 1,316 - from a record high of 149,768 on 31/03/24 down to 148,452 on 31/03/25. The same trend is evident in FTE (Full Time Equivalent) numbers. Conservatives delivered…
Questions about the events in 1984 at Orgreave have gone unanswered for too long, undermining trust in our police service - especially in former coalfield communities. To help restore this trust, the @UKLabour Government is launching a Statutory Inquiry to finally get answers.
NEW: Clampdown on delivery riders sharing accounts with migrants living in asylum accommodation. Enhanced data sharing means delivery companies will be provided asylum accommodation locations to crack down on riders sharing accounts with migrants working illegally in the UK.
Congratulations @Lionesses 🏴🏴🏴 What a result! On to the final. We’re all behind you. #WEURO2025
WE'RE IN THE #WEURO2025 FINAL! 🙌
The impact of knife crime is a heavy burden to carry. A future never had, a dream never fulfilled, a life never lived. If you carry a knife, you will carry the sentence. Surrender your weapons now before it is too late 👇
Was in the Commons Chamber this evening to hear @NickTorfaen update MPs on further changes to the compensation scheme for those infected and affected in the contaminated blood scandal of the 1970s and 1980s. This follows the most recent recommendations of the @bloodinquiry.

We cannot allow tomorrow’s retirees to be poorer than today’s - which is what we are on track for. So we are reviving the Pensions Commission to set Britain on a different course gov.uk/government/new…
Promise made. Promise delivered. This Labour government is establishing an inquiry into the violent confrontation between police and picketers at Orgreave.

🚨 Reform's war on homegrown, clean energy would cost almost a million jobs across the UK and leave you paying higher energy bills.🚨

These sanctions send a clear message to Russia. Attempts to conduct malicious cyber activity against the UK will not be tolerated. Along with our international partners, we work constantly to counter these cyber-attacks and bolster our resilience.
Russian spies are trying to destabilise Europe, undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and threaten the safety of British citizens. Today we are exposing this activity and sanctioning those responsible. Protecting the UK from harm is fundamental to this government’s Plan for Change.
It was a pleasure to visit the @TheMatchgirls exhibition in Parliament this week. Just like Hull's @headscarfpride revolutionaries, these women changed the course of history.
So proud to use my first ever adjournment debate to pay tribute to the legacy of Bow’s Matchgirls Brave young women who 137 years ago this week, walked from Bow to Parliament to support the 1,400 women who walked out of the Bryant and May factory in protest at dangerous and…
