"He preached the Bible." Preaching the Bible has nothing to do with his heart towards women and the oppressed. Preaching the Bible, but failing to truly shepherd means he wasn't a shepherd. Ezekiel 34!
He preached the Bible. You’re shaping his entire ministry off of maybe a few disgruntled women? He counseled what the Bible teaches. That may not always be culturally acceptable, but that’s what he taught. If you don’t like the Bible, you won’t like MacArthur.
It's interesting that my ex demanded that I submit to his "headship." He chose to withhold love, emotional connection, time, as manipulation to force me to believe in male headship. He is the one who lost his family, not me. Even if I was Muslim, his job was still to love me.

There are 95 counties in TN, 45 of them have no Ob/gyn. You should sit this one out.
And yet they are unhinged about Chip and Joanna Gaines employing a gay couple. Make it make sense.
Only a white man in America can… be videotaped with underaged girls while hanging with a child sex trafficker cheat on his wife with a porn actresses and pay her to keep quiet publicly fantasize about having sex with his own daughter openly boast about sexually assaulting…
John MacArthur had the gifts to be a great shepherd, but sadly he used them to protect systems, not people—failing to shield women from abuse, preaching disturbing views on race, and binding the gospel to conservative ideology.
“MacArthur said the most important mark of his ministry was that he explained the Bible with the Bible, not…appeals to emotion” Umm. He was a master of using distain, frustration, anger.
My obit, where I get into more of MacArthur's history, is unlocked here: christianitytoday.com/2025/07/died-j…
How do you get past this Franklin? My experience with victims of clergy sexual abuse is that old white men protect old white men. How do you reconcile this?
Ah yes.
Why do I write about Robert Dabney continually? Because he lives on in MacArthur and Piper and Grudem and Mohler and Douglas Wilson. HT @danieleleven32 biblioskolex.wordpress.com/2018/08/26/joh…
“MacArthur influenced pastors and lay leaders across evangelical Christianity and taught them to be mean-spirited, divisive, judgmental and absolutely certain he alone held God’s truth” - Yep baptistnews.com/article/when-i…
And while there are many great preachers/teachers other than this one, the church has not suffered from one man’s death. But many vulnerable women are less likely to be harmed now.
When JMac did not protect abused women, he did not protect the flock of Christ, of which he was an undershepherd.
When Jesus said “whatever you have not done, even for the least of these, you have not done unto me” doesn’t only apply to the hungry or the prisoner.
I won’t honor a man who is directly responsible for the physical and emotional abuse of untold wives in the name of poor hermeneutics.
One of the most meaningful comments I’ve ever received on anything I’ve ever written. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
One criticism I'm receiving is that I should've waited longer to write what I did about MacArthur. In other words, those who MacArthur silenced and subjugated should remain silent and subjugated while everyone celebrates the man who silenced and subjugated them.
As someone diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I agree that docs are too quick to diagnose and way to quick to medicate. But J-Mac's view is worse. Functionally, it's like the Faith preachers he despised, when they imply sick people just lack faith to be healed.
Teaching like this helped ruin my first marriage. My ex wife and I tried our best to live by what this man said and it ruined us both. Remember, Misogyny hurts men as well as women. No one wins.
Plenty of documentation on abusive behavior at GCC, especially toward women. I'd hardly call it gossip when one woman's husband is now in prison for the things she told the elders who disciplined HER.
