With polls showing a new left party basically consuming the Green vote, I’ve no idea why anyone is discussing an alliance. Why hobble that new party by an alliance to something to the right of it? For what return?
There’s something very odd about the fact that terrible war has raged in Europe for years, with far reaching consequences for the stability of the European social order…and no one knows what to say about it. Left, right and centre there’s a general hush. Not healthy, is it?
In our latest article (and my last from GCU), @twosoulsindy and I examine how Scottish social movement activists navigated the COVID-19 crisis, the state, and each other during the pandemic. Available here: euppublishing.com/doi/abs/10.336…

There’s a room in South Ayrshire that’s more like a public stocks. After Von der Layen humiliates herself and the EU at Trump’s feet, Starmer comes crawling in. Stomach-turning weakness.

What lies behind the US-EU trade deal is not “bad negotiation” on the European side as such. It is the jointly agreed arrangement of longterm and fixed American hegemonic control of the Western hemisphere as the world system transitions from unipolarity to multipolarity.
It’s an indictment of the British press that someone as deranged as Phillips was able to make a lifelong career peddling these sick fantasies. Look at what’s been created here, from the barren tundra of democratic culture and intellectual life:
Is it really the case that everything the hostile world is saying about Israel is a lie and only Israel is telling the truth? Yes. Israel has caused no starvation or famine in Gaza. The pictures of children skeletal from "starvation" are fake. They're of children with terrible…
It’s really mind-bending to think this deal was agreed in South Ayrshire. The reverberations are travelling out to Europe and the world. But at ground zero, Lilliput is unresponsive. Scrutiny? Who that?
How can Scottish and European journalists hope to dissect this? It would involve admitting they were taken-in on Ukraine. It would involve questioning European, US and UK foreign policy all at once. That’s too much. It’s too big for Lilliput. 4/4
‘to do everything in his power’ Just do what you can Mr Prime Minister. That’s all we ask.
I urged Prime Minister Netanyahu in a phone call to do everything in his power to bring about an immediate ceasefire and called on him to allow urgently needed humanitarian aid to reach the starving civilian population in Gaza without delay. 1/2
This you?
Israel must allow aid in over land to end the starvation unfolding in Gaza. The situation is desperate. We are working with Jordan to get aid into Gaza. We are urgently accelerating efforts to evacuate children who need critical medical assistance to the UK for treatment.…
Writing about this re Scotland right now. 2020 had a huge impact on the minds of many Scottish commentators, and they are trapped in it. Constantly trying to rehabilitate its lines of division, declaring its fleeting obsessions the new frontier of politics years on.
Antiwoke needed it to always be 2020. It being no longer 2020, its energies inevitably dissipate. Its supporters retreat into memorialising mode, engaging in the offence archaeology of digging up old tweets, as if to say, “remember when?”
