Membranes and proteins fascinate me
Check out our latest pre-print, a lot of hard work from @Yaping51208690 has gone in to developing and optimising this! Hope it will be useful for the community. Big thanks to @IanofBristol and for sharing constructs biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Day 2 of our annual retreat has ended, and we are grateful for the fruitful scientific discussions. It’s inspiring to see the complementary perspectives of polymer and life scientists coming together! @uni_mainz @imbmainz @mpi_polymer @MPIbp @UnimedizinMainz @Uni_Stuttgart
And we are live from our Annual Retreat! It's really great to witness polymer and life scientists together sharing their science! @uni_mainz_eng @uni_mainz @imbmainz @UnimedizinMainz @MPIbp @Uni_Stuttgart @mpi_polymer
BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”
Again other fantastic talks by @FreeCyano & @DSchneiderLab @ Twitter-less Rakefet Schwartz & Yulia Yuzenkova
More cell biology talks!! #EWBC2024
Very cool! ESCRT-III is the PDB "molecule of the month"! pdb101.rcsb.org/motm/296
Great @GBM_eV talk given by Oliver Daumke from @MDC_Berlin about Structural Insights into Mitochondrial Crista Junction Architecture. Thank you Oli for the visit! You brought perfect weather with you, and we had a nice evening on the terrace of the restaurant.

More bacterial ESCRT-III structures: A total of 61 cryo-EM structures of PspA reveal the molecular basis of plasticity of ESCRT-III assemblies under different conditions. Great collaboration with @DSchneiderLab. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
More on bacterial ESCRT-III: a total 30 cryo-EM structures of Vipp1 organized in membrane-bound coats, carpets, ring complexes, stacked-ring assemblies, and helical tubes inducing high membrane curvature. Great collaboration with @DSchneiderLab! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Starting our Winter School second day #CellularSignaling with the Signaling Across Membranes session. Happy to share the stage with @DSchneiderLab @FORTHEMAlliance Superb organisation by @benoit_poinssot @univbourgogne
The missing piece in the bacterial #ESCRT-III story.. #Vipp1 forms dynamic spiral filaments on membrane! Spirals are springs that drive 3D ring formation in the spiral centre! 😎😵💫 Wonderful collaboration with @Colom_D @RouxLab… 1/2 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Available now - the Review "Conserved structures of #ESCRTIII superfamily members across domains of life" from Lukas Schlosser @SachseGroup @thelowlab @DSchneiderLab They also propose a unified numbering convention/nomenclature for these structures. authors.elsevier.com/a/1hm4u3S6GfMm…
See the new joint statement from professional societies in biomedicine and biology spearheaded by GBM on the planned amendment of the German Act on Temporary Scientific Contracts! Postdocs need 4 years or more to complete their work and another 6 for an academic career path!
A nice review by Marc Bramkamp @BramkampLab and Dirk-Jan Scheffers @DirkScheffers about membrane dynamics in bacteria and the proteins involved. Highly recommended! Bacterial membrane dynamics: Compartmentalization and repair pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37243899/
🎉 Our CRC 1552 'Defects and Defect Engineering in Soft Matter' will be funded by @dfg_public and kick off at @uni_mainz & @mpi_polymer soon, led by spokesperson @sci_ffert. It will make defects new function givers in superb soft materials. Thanks to all who made this possible!🍾
Just dynamin making extracellular vesicles in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.. 😎 embopress.org/doi/full/10.15…
