I'm going to pin my favourite @Ember_energy graphics of 2025 here (mostly for my own benefit!)...
JUNE DATA UPDATE for CHINA🇨🇳: Solar up 40% in June, keeping coal almost unchanged. Coal generation is down 2% YTD. ember-energy.org/data/electrici…

WOW.. after the mega surge in May ahead of the rules change on 1-June, who expected that June would still see another 14GW?!

☀️ In June, China’s Solar capacity installations dropped sharply to 14.36 GW, vs the massive 93GW in May. In H1 2025, China added 212 GW Solar capacity, 51.4 GW wind capacity. ⏩️So another 168 GW ☀️ need to be added in H2 to hit State Grid’s forecast of 380 GW in 2025
Oh my gosh, this was a great discussion.. I started off by being very excited by the #batteryrevolution, and by the end, David's enthusiasm had pushed me over the edge! Solar and batteries are going to change everything for the global electricity system!
Today on Volts: the sun doesn't shine at night, but if you add batteries it might as well! If you're not closely tracking the industry, you're probably not aware of just how cheap solar+storage is getting. I talk with the authors of a new Ember report about the good news.
A major global injustice today: 1 billion people in Africa cook with basic fuels like wood, charcoal & dung, contributing to over 800,000 premature deaths a year Solving this would cost less than 0.1% of global energy investment, new @IEA report shows ➡️ iea.li/44BzC79
Renewables First has not only been tracking #Pakistan solar revolution, it also is pressing for policy changes that would make #EnergyTransition faster & smoother. Get the complete story here: uploads.renewablesfirst.org/The_Great_Sola… #Renewables #cleanenergy #RF #SolarEnergy #ClimateCrisis
Pakistan is undergoing a massive solar boom. "Pakistan wasn’t expecting to do this for at least 10 or 20 years," says analyst Muhammad Mustafa Amjad. "It was always supposed to be the U.S. and China first." Read more: bit.ly/3IlDK2r
Saudi's ambitious plan to go to 50% of its electricity from renewables in 2030 (from 0%(!) in 2020) has taken another positive step forward with 12GW solar + 3GW wind PPA signed for 2027/8 start💪 pv-magazine.com/2025/07/14/sau…
So! China released its new renewable power consumption quotas yesterday and added heavy industry into the list of obligated entities. A Big Deal! I last wrote a thread about China's RPS ~4 years ago, but things have changed since then, so it's time for a commentary refresh. 🧵
EU coal power fell to a record low in June, making up just 6.1% of EU electricity generation. 🇪🇺⚡️ Ten years ago, in June 2015, coal still supplied a quarter (25.3%) of EU electricity.
