Prof; PI of Action & Perception Lab @EP_UCL & @WCHN_UCL. Cognitive neuroscience, action, perception, learning. Cellist, lazy runner, mum.
📢 Thrilled to announce that I - and the lab - will shortly be joining @EP_UCL (@UCLPALS; we remain also part of @WCHN_UCL). It's been an exciting 12.5 yrs at @BirkbeckUoL and I'm looking forward to the next era!

📢ERC-funded PhD at UCL📢 How does learning about the world's statistical structure optimise perception for future learning? If you're interested in this perception-learning cycle, & enjoy developing both theories & methods, apply! Pls repost/ask me qus🙏 tinyurl.com/bde3ektx
Many congratulations to the newly minted Dr @JamesHenryChard on passing your PhD viva with flying colours. Truly well deserved and a real pleasure to supervise. Thanks so much to @CarienvanReekum and @Silvia_Seghezzi for examining and joining us for the fun celebrations 🎉

How do beliefs about visibility influence perceptual decisions? What does this mean for our models of perceptual detection? Here @mazormatan provides a new model. Great work Matan and @moran_rani 👇
How do we infer perceptual absences? Do beliefs about perception play a role in such inferences? And how does it all relate to cellist Natalia Gutman’s career decisions? Find answers in our new preprint with @moran_rani and @ClarePress: osf.io/preprints/psya… A 🧵
Do you need another reason to sign up for #SAMBA2024? @ClarePress sharing her research on the interdependence of statistical learning and perception definitely ticks that box! Head over to our homepage and register now! samba.ccns.sbg.ac.at/samba-2024/reg…
This is published now as journal article: doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.… Congratulations @emilyrthomas27, @PeterKokNeuro, @ClarePress et al. There is also a commentary that comes along with it: doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.…
Predictive processing frameworks propose distinct prediction and error representation across cortical layers. We examined theories of such functioning, by presenting unexpected events alongside expected ones and decoded the representation of such events across cortical layers.
Looking forward to welcoming everyone to Birmingham today for the start of Control Processes 2024 @TheCHBH, @unibirmingham & @EdgbastonPark. Kicking off with a drinks reception out here in the sun, before @blamlab's keynote talk. Safe journey everyone! uobevents.eventsair.com/control-proces…

For the next @UCL_EP seminar on 14/05, Prof @HeleenASlagter invites us to reconsider how attention is typically approached: rather than as a mere sensory filter but as a relational process that optimizes agent-environment interactions based on priors. buff.ly/3wjdcta

Exciting news! After much hard work, we've finally pushed this manuscript across the finish line. 🎉 Stay tuned for it to appear in Nature Communications! Big congrats to Quirin Gehmacher and friends. Grateful for support from @FWF_at and @FFG_AT. @dept_psych_sbg @PLUS_1622
Happy that my final PhD paper is now out in Current Biology! If you want to find out more about laminar 7T fMRI and how perceptual predictions and errors are represented across V1, check it out 😊 @joosthaarsma @danieljamesyon @PeterKokNeuro @ClarePress sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
