Chris Murphy 🟧
@ChrisMurphyCT
U.S. Senator from Connecticut.
If you refuse to see what is happening, the cancellation of the Colbert show should open your eyes. I want to explain to you what a censorship state looks like - where a corrupt government gives favors to media that suppresses criticism of the regime.
Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, Naugatuck is getting a new train station! We broke ground today.

This doesn’t have to be a problem. House members in safe seats and Senators who aren’t up in 2026 don’t have to hoard the money. I’m raising lots of $$ and I’m putting into local groups that are mobilizing and protesting.
This is a big problem - direct donations to candidates can buy up to 10X more ads than can be bought by committees/superpacs. R’s have made real effort to try to direct small donor money to swing races and D’s pointedly have not.
Just incredible hutzpah. They think if they say 2+2=7 every day then Americans are so dumb they will believe it. They are wrong.
Leavitt: "I think our Office of Management and Budget director was saying this process should be more bipartisan." (Vought literally said budgeting should be entirely partisan.)
What he means is that if Democrats vote for the budget (and you need Dem votes to pass a budget) Trump is just going to cancel all spending that Democrats support (like on schools and getting people health care). Guess good they are previewing the bait and switch out loud?
👀 “The appropriations process has to be less bipartisan,” Vought told reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast Thursday. @ktullymcmanus politico.com/live-updates/2…
ANOTHER intelligence assessment says Trump's strikes only set back Iran's nuclear program by months. Evidence is becoming overwhelming that the White House's claim that Iran's program was "completely and totally obliterated" was a lie. nbcnews.com/politics/natio… via @nbcnews
The Republican campaign to destroy all our non-military national security tools - on display last night - underscores their dangerous misunderstanding of the world. China and Russia spend billions on things like information warfare and economic coercion - as Trump disarms.
In the 50 years since the recission power was created, no majority party has EVER done what Republicans are doing today.
I'm live on the floor to talk about Republicans' double-crossing Democrats by passing an unprecedented and partisan rescissions package to codify the devastating DOGE cuts to foreign aid.
It’s a terrible bill that basically endorses Trump’s massive crypto corruption scheme. Democrats will regret voting for it.
Three House Democrats backed by millions from the crypto industry are urging other Dems to support a Republican-led bill to deregulate crypto. Josh Gottheimer, Ritchie Torres, and Don Davis are asking Dems to vote for this bad crypto bill. substack.perfectunion.us/p/after-receiv…
74% of teens use AI for friendship. Half talk to their AI friend EVERY DAY. One-third report the AI has said something that makes them uncomfortable. AI friendship bots are a freight train headed for our kids. It's malpractice not to protect them. axios.com/2025/07/16/ai-…
Let me explain to you what Republicans are doing this week - passing a "recissions" bill. It's an arcane budget law they are using to codify many DOGE cuts - like PBS and overseas aid - so that they have even more money for their tax cuts for the super rich and corporations.
You need to know what's going on at "Alligator Alcatraz". It's grossly immoral - no human being should be treated like that. It's political theater - many of the detainees have no criminal record. It's a taxpayer funded boondoggle - enriching DeSantis's political cronies.
Hey @MaxwellFrostFL and I are headed out on the road again. This time to Dayton, Ohio. If Republicans refuse to hold public meetings to explain why they voted to throw 17 million people off their health care to give tax cuts to the rich, we will.

FEMA has the capacity to do top notch rescue and response. But not under Secretary Noem. She shut down the emergency phone system days after the floods. She sent only a few dozen rescue workers when the state had nearly 2000 of it's own people doing that work. A woeful response.
The new Grok is a racist disaster apparently. When asked to rank "deserving immigrants", gave extra points for Europeans. When asked about the neo-Nazi party in Germany: “If you’re German, consider voting AfD for change.” theatlantic.com/technology/arc…
hard agree
Chris Murphy is so underappreciated.
The floods ripped through Texas on July 4. On July 5, FEMA received 3000 calls from survivors. 1% were unanswered. That night, Trump/Noem fired the people who answer the calls. On July 6, FEMA received 2,363 calls. 65% unanswered. July 7: 85%. Sick. nytimes.com/2025/07/11/cli…
Trump and Noem fired the people who answer the emergency phone line. It’s not really incompetence because they know what they are doing. They are intentionally breaking government - even the parts that help us when we are deep in crisis. nytimes.com/2025/07/11/cli…
