No matter the spin - research has shown over and over again that work requirements do not increase employment. They do not increase earnings. They just cut people off from the support they need to meet their basic needs. cbpp.org/blog/most-work…
ICYMI: Great op-ed out from @amyhanauer of @iteptweets on the $5B tax shelter in the reconciliation bill you probably haven’t even heard about thehill.com/opinion/financ…
Reminder – Republicans say they’re targeting mythical able-bodied men playing video games, but they actually wrote a law that specifically targets and takes food away from parents, veterans, people facing homelessness, and older workers who face complications finding jobs.
People who face barriers to securing steady employment or who live in an area with few job opportunities still face those exact same challenges when their food or health care gets taken away by a work requirement. But now they also don't have food or health care.
“Even if we cut every single thing in the state, we don’t have the money to backfill all these cuts.”

The flooding deaths in TX are horrific. We can't say for sure if they were preventable, but we do know 2 things: 1. Accurate flood maps, early warning systems, and timely disaster response saves lives. 2. Funding cuts at NOAA and FEMA will kill people.
Let me explain what's going on here. CBO does say that bill's onerous paperwork provisions will result in 5 million people losing insurance. But not because they are are all not working, because most of them are. The coverage loss comes from ELIGIBLE people who get knocked off.
Jennings: There are like almost 5 million able bodied people on medicaid who simply choose not to work. They spend six hours a day socializing and watching television. And if you can't get off grandma's couch and work, I don't want to pay. Phillip: I don't know where you're…
The nat’l school voucher proposal in the Senate GOP reconciliation plan wld threaten students’ access to quality public schools, give tax breaks to the wealthy, & override states that have rejected these harmful policies. Lawmakers who care abt our kids’ futures should reject it.
Senate R leaders have revised their plan to cut #SNAP. The details are slightly different, but the bottom line is the same: this would still take food assistance away from millions of low-income people, raise families’ grocery costs & risk some states ending SNAP altogether.
This is really the thing. There is opportunity through reconciliation for Senate Republicans to reshape the federal agenda to help MILLIONS of people, and they just...aren't. Read CBPP President @ParrottCBPP's statement on the Senate bill here: cbpp.org/press/statemen…
