Interdisciplinary cell biologist fascinated by cellular mechanobiology. Tweets about science & sometimes also other stuff to which I engage. Views are my own.
Recently, more and more devastating studies (I'll link the most recent ones in the thread below) are coming out about the stress of job insecurity and precarity in academics around the world and the negative effects it has on science! It makes my really ponder why ... 1/x

thanks to all of you who tuned in for this 3rd series of Ultimate Calm. As always these episodes were a joy to make and I’d like to thank all my brilliant guests for taking the time to be a part of it.
Amazing!
Much of our knowledge of ancient individuals is limited to the elite, people like rulers/generals. Yet occasionally we come across archaeology that reveals a tiny glimpse of the life of a regular person. Meet Onfim! He lived 800 years ago and boy, did he find homework boring.🧵1/
Check out the latest work from the lab, published in @aplbioeng! Co-led by Brad and Zach, we investigate the biophysical characteristics of patient-matched core and rim GBM tissue. Another exciting collaborative effort with colleagues @UofLNeurosurg pubs.aip.org/aip/apb/articl…
Always and forever advocating in #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience Keep breaking the glass ceilings!!!! Never back down!!!
#ECMatrix researchers, please share: Just under 2 weeks until the abstract deadline (21st Feb) for the 3-day Matrix Nexus meeting in Freiburg. Topics include #cancer #collagens #proteoglycans #proteases #tissueengineering & a session dedicated to #ECRs! matrixbiologie.de/annual-meeting…
It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS, indeterminate dendritic cell histiocytosis…
In celebration of International Day of Women & Girls in Science @ReproductionMS & me, as Equal Opportunities Rep, are excited to host @SchuethAnna Let's unravel together the unique challenges faced by women in academia, reflect & inspire the next gen. Nothing impossible #idwgs
Thanks for having us @THEmeshwork2020, really interesting talks by my co-speakers @DrSarahBoyle and @MathildeMthu. Lots of fascinating research going on in the #Mechanobiology field. Thanks to @ccstorytime for chairing! If anyway has questions, please feel free to email me.
A truly amazing a& inspiring session on Advances in Mechanobiology!!! Huge thanks to @DrSarahBoyle @CarstenSchulte4 @MathildeMthu for sharing their research with the rest of us and @ccstorytime for moderating!!!! See u all in the next!!!

1. A viable scientific ecosystem provides a variety of environments for scientists to thrive. Some need to be left alone & work in small groups, some like big multidisciplinary consortia, some build a body of work slowly & incrementally over years, others seek a few big findings
