advances in natural products chemistry, biology and their relation to medicine; and a laboratory to do great science
Yesterday Stevie Wonder received an Honorary degree from Hopkins and the Peabody, and gave us a song to a cheering ovation. The genius of his name is correct.

Former Group Member Brenda Wilson was in town to receive an award from the @ASMicrobiology as her highly regarded "Bacterial Pathogenesis: A Molecular Approach " heads to a new edition. We posed for a picture with her pbk for non-experts written with her son! How cool is that?

Year-End Kudos. Especially to former Group member Doug Cohen and his team mates at Vertex for seeing thru to FDA approval the first CRISPR-based therapy for a genetic disorder— sickle cell disease‚ a landmark. Congratulations and to all who have made advances in 2023
Looking forward to serve on the @JACS_Au Early Career Advisory Board in the upcoming year! #OpenAccess #BiologicalChemistry
We are delighted to announce the 2023 JACS Au Early Career Advisory Board! Each year, we appoint new members to this board, seeking perspectives from, and providing advice and guidance to, emerging independent scholars. Check out the list: go.acs.org/5lW

Appearing today in @J_A_C_S. Connecting the dots to a biogenetic proposal for anthraquinone-fused enediyne biosynthesis: doi.org/10.1021/jacs.3… Remarkable rearrangement and oxidation chemistry — and a simple, efficient synthetic model. Congratulations Paramita and Serena!

LIVE NOW: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivers the commencement speech at Johns Hopkins University
As a fearless champion of his nation, President Zelenskyy has shown the world what true courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds looks like. Watch him address the Class of 2023 Live. Livestream: video.ibm.com/channel/johnsh… ASL Interpretation: video.ibm.com/JohnsHopkins/
Read a comprehensive overview of NRPS structures from deep background over time to new insights into protein dynamics and functional diversity. Excellent!

Belated, belated congratulations to Jamie to complete the Magnificent Seven, all earning their Ph.D.'s in 2022. Her work with the @MaierLab lab in Basel has given eye-opening views of non-reducing polyketide synthases in action—watch for them later this year!

New, cheap, easy A-domain assay For NRPS researchers. screening substrates for A domain selectivity is a job that just has to be done. Congratulations to Lukas and Michael for a really nice way to get thru this task quickly with good sensitivity: @doi.org/10.1002/cbic.202200668
Congratulations to the Maier lab. Take in the resolution!
Congratulations to the Buller lab. You guys are on a roll!

For the record it’s called a “carbapenem “ not a “carbopanem “ but we appreciate the shoutout all the same #RSC. And warm thanks to Annaliese for her special signature to this difficult but uncompromising study. Show ‘em how it’s done guys!!
How does innovation happen in biosynthetic enzymes? Michael, the latest of the #Magnificent Seven to defend his thesis, made a big step toward answering this question — published in part @PNAS doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2…. Bravo all around!

Big shoutout to Greg Challis and organizers of the @Directing Biosynthesis VI #RSC meeting going on right now. Stellar cast of established and new talent who've brought absolutely A-game talks!
Overjoyed to share our work now out in @Nature - massive biosynthetic diversity of the open ocean and new RiPP enzymes brought to you by the incomparable @Lcs_Paoli and team: @SunagawaLab, @piel_lab esp. @HubrichFlorian, @satriaphd, and many more ❤️🎉nature.com/articles/s4158…
Congratulations to Hunter and successful defense of this Thesis. In a great collaboration the Lamichhane and Nuermberger labs in the School of Medicine, exciting translational advances have been made against @mycobacterial diseases TB and M. abscessus.
