MEMPHIS — Jim Maxwell, who spent much of his career as a scout team and reserve quarterback, was thrust into action in Tennessee’s 10-7 win over Mississippi State in Memphis in 1971. He remained the starter, leading the Vols to seven-straight wins that season.
