My paper, "The Distributist Paradigm as Shown through Some Objections" was just published in the American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly. pdcnet.org/acpq/content/a…
I wrote about the lack of administrative support for the liberal arts in @nytimes. The standard story we hear is that students don't want it. But a darker reality is that even when it wins big with students and donors it loses with those in power. nytimes.com/2025/07/17/opi…
Please, @KathyHochul, do the right thing and veto this monstrosity of a bill. We can and do care for the sick and dying in nonviolent ways. There is no reason to undermine the very notion of healthcare itself in order to appease the illusions of autonomy for the most privileged.
Here is the personal case I made directly to the NY governor to veto this horrific bill. The very idea of healthcare as a coherent concept now lies in her hands. nydailynews.com/2025/05/04/alb…
Peace be with you all! This is the first greeting spoken by the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd. I would like this greeting of peace to resound in your hearts, in your families, and among all people, wherever they may be, in every nation and throughout the world.
This is such a weak-sauce attempt to articulate opposition to your position. What are you arguing for here is the mass-killing (or at least recklessly and intentionally discarding) of the most vulnerable members of the human family...often based on their disability. And you are…
People say it's "playing God." But let's be honest — humans have been "playing God" since antibiotics, organ transplants, and open-heart surgery. Each breakthrough that extends or improves life faced similar resistance before becoming standard care. Embryo screening represents…
For those in eastern Iowa, our spring lecture series at @MountMercy.
Mount Mercy University's spring lecture series. These lectures are free and open to the public.
Endorse 1000%. Elective curricula sets departments and professors against each other, in a race to the bottom. Required curricula give everyone the strength to do and learn more.
Here's more proof that we must fight against the elective curriculum, which was established in the 19th c. on the basis of laissez-faire economics and social Darwinism. We need a curriculum that fights against the free-market notion that popularity is the only measure of value!
Friends, political philosopher Patrick J. Deneen is my latest guest on Bishop Barron Presents: Conversations at the Crossroads. We had a wonderful discussion around his two most recent books: “Why Liberalism Failed” and “Regime Change.”
For those in eastern Iowa, J.J. Wright is giving our Hesburgh Lecture this coming Monday (March 18), and Fr. Nicanor Austriaco is giving our Aquinas Lecture the following Monday (March 25).
We're looking to hire a theologian.
Our department is conducting a search for a theologian to fill a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Theology to begin this fall (2024). The posting went up yesterday at Higher Ed Jobs at the link below. higheredjobs.com/faculty/detail…
I'm looking forward to Matthew's lecture here at MMU on March 5! @millinerd

So too @stthomashouston where we have set records 3 years in a row for freshman classes. Real Catholic liberal education is popular.
An astonishing trend is happening in college enrollment. While many colleges are on life-support, traditional faith-based colleges such as Hillsdale, Benedictine, UD, TAC, and Cedarville are setting record enrollment.
The small Catholic colleges that rejected or gave only lip service to Ex Corde Ecclesiae are closing or cutting to the bone and drawing down their endowments to stay afloat. By contrast, those that embraced ECC are setting enrollment records. firstthings.com/article/2023/0…

For those in the eastern Iowa area, on February 15 William Cavanaugh will be giving Mount Mercy University's President's Lecture on the theme of his new book The Uses of Idolatry (OUP, Jan., 2024). The event is free and open to the public.
Yet more evidence that when you insist upon mission and Catholic identity as essential to a Catholic university’s academic and scholastic activity, the community flourishes.
The University of Mary in ND set an all-time record for incoming freshman. When I visited last March I met students from as far away as California who went all the way to North Dakota to be part of the Catholic community.
For all those in eastern Iowa, this year our Aquinas Lecture will be given by Fr. James Brent O.P. on April 13.
Earlier that week, April 4th at 5:30 PM, I'll be giving the President's Lecture at Mt. Mercy University in Cedar Rapids where I'll be speaking on Losing Our Dignity. Thanks for the invite, @BryanRCross! eventbrite.com/e/spring-lectu… So very happy to be returning to the Hawkeye state!
