What a difference a month makes for Braves pitching: In June, Strider/Sale/Schwellenbach each had 0.9 fWAR, Lee/Holmes had 0.5, and Iglesias was at 0.3. In July, it’s a four-way tie at just 0.2 fWAR from Joey Wentz, Raisel Iglesias, Austin Cox, and Daysbel Hernández.
The Braves, after they pick up Erick Fedde and Luke Jackson:
Hard pass.
The Cardinals announced they have designated Erick Fedde for assignment. Fedde (3-10, 5.22 ERA) was in the final year of his two-year, $15 million deal.
Not that the Braves should expect to get much for an ailing DH on an expiring contract, but two mid-tier prospects would be a decent return. Bergert is starter depth with multiple options while Pena is a relief prospect that is Rule 5-eligible this offseason.

In a season with not much else to look forward to, Chris Sale could improve his career stats and HOF resumé along with being a mentor for the younger pitchers. For example, just 37 strikeouts before the end of the season would move Sale from 37th up to 32nd on the all-time list.
As we're reminded of the Braves' pitching woes tonight, would it be best to stay away from Sale, Schwellenbach, Lopez and Jimenez until next year? Sale may push to make some starts after becoming eligible for activation on Aug. 19. But I can see staying away from the others.
Nine up, nine down with five strikeouts for RHP Owen Murphy in his start for the FCL Braves on Tuesday. The complex league season wraps up on Thursday so his next start with be with either Augusta or Rome.
Lots of movement within the Braves organization today, but the most exciting development is org top-10 prospect RHP Owen Murphy starting a rehab assignment for the FCL Braves. He had Tommy John surgery a little over a year ago.

Hope Grant Holmes can go pretty deep today since the bullpen is pretty gutted after the last couple of games. They likely keep Dunning in reserve if they can with Elder and Daniel going the next couple of days.

Do the Braves really want to pay a guy $9.5 million next season to be a pitcher they bring into a 7-0 game? If they don’t want to use him as a high-leverage reliever, then the Braves need to trade Aaron Bummer.
If they wanted to make Ozuna think about it, put him in left field instead.
So I’ve got a hypothesis Ozuna indicated he didn’t want to wave his 10/5 NTC when the Braves approached him about it. So now they’re gonna sit him for 2 weeks and see if he changes his mind

Saturday looks like it could be a Wentz/Dunning piggyback situation.
