Periodic reminder that my lab @EmoryUniversity is looking for people! We're seeking postdocs (hi @neurophd_emory grads!) and will be hiring a new technician next year. We use cutting-edge tools to study neural circuits and behavior in flies 🧠🪰🔬🧬 devinenilab.org/join-us
Many grants like this were just terminated. These are researchers actively developing cures that would likely save thousands of lives. Terminating the research makes absolutely no sense unless your goal is to have more people get sick and die.
Our NIH grant to discover coronavirus antiviral meds was terminated today. With this grant, we had developed a better SARSCoV2 inhibitor than Paxlovid, and we recently discovered an improved drug that looks better than Pfizer's own second-generation inhibitor.
Thousands of workers were fired from CDC, NIH, & other agencies, even if they had excellent performance reviews. These are people with critical jobs like monitoring disease outbreaks or developing cancer drugs. Their salaries are a miniscule % of the budget. This makes no sense.
Anyone supporting mass layoffs should read this thread from fired federal workers. These are real people. "I make $50k a year & work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer." reddit.com/r/fednews/comm…
NOAA is reportedly on the DOGE chopping block. The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US. A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans. Again, this isn't about efficiency.
"Low returns on investment?" In just two years, this grant helped support the publication of about 10 scientific papers. Our work aims to address hearing loss, a condition affecting >40 million Americans and the number one modifiable risk factor for dementia. 8/15
BOA reps on X will only help ppl with X accounts and not any other means even though I DMed her email. My employee has already called BOA directly and gone there in person and they still won't let her access her own money. This has to be illegal - anyone know how we can escalate?
WTF @BankofAmerica closed my employee’s account without any notice and won’t let her access her own money and won’t provide help in person or over the phone other than saying they are “investigating”. This is her only account and she literally can’t pay bills or buy things!!

From the other site. It's harder to see the impact here since so many scientists fled, but the NIH cuts are having a real impact. Whole labs are shutting down, careers are ending. Pediatric cancer research ffs.
This is insane and not how a normal government operates. The US is unraveling in front of our eyes.
An in depth expose of the attack on and illegal halting of @NIH funding! For so long there’s been bipartisan support for science and medicine. This is not the way to enact reform..and it is devastating science in the US, especially medical schools theatlantic.com/health/archive…
NIH's ability to fund new grants is frozen indefinitely 👇 Sabotaging NIH funding makes no sense. Nearly every medicine or treatment you've ever received has roots in NIH-funded research, and every dollar of NIH spending generates $2.46 in returns. nytimes.com/2025/02/21/sci…
1. Help: NIH study sections and council meetings not already published in the Federal Register as of Jan. 21 have not been allowed to meet (thetransmitter.org/funding/federa…). This appears to be an 'end run' around a recent injunction and came from HHS officials. You can help (see below):
Finally, someone is reporting on how funding of new NIH grants is effectively frozen due to an administrative block 👇 Grants already submitted cannot be reviewed, and grants already reviewed with excellent scores cannot be funded. This is the opposite of "efficiency".
A large portion of grants awarded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health cannot be funded for the foreseeable future because of an indefinite hold on submissions to the Federal Register, according to an email reviewed by The Transmitter. By @avaskham thetransmitter.org/funding/federa…

The administration is firing as many ppl as it thinks it can legally fire without any consideration of how important their jobs are or how much $ will actually be saved. Disease control, cancer research... these indiscriminate cuts will affect ALL of us npr.org/sections/shots…
